I haven't tried the Sufix, but most mono needs to be replaced pretty frequently depending on how it's used. I go through two respools a season on three rods with mono used in my downriggers, but my (dare I say?) bass rigs and walleye rigs are about once a season. I have reels spooled with braid for divers and flatline trolling that usually last around two years (and could actually go longer but usually get involved in some sort of mishap-- "team fishing" with another line, caught in a prop, or whatever). My bobber rods seem to last forever, both with braid and mono.

I use suffix DNA and usually change it twice a season. It all depends how much you have been using it or where you might be fishing.

Hey Chinookjinxed,

I try to change my line every month. If you fish alot in the month it is a good idea. I didnt fish hardly at all November or December so I changed my line after October salmon was over and used that line through January. I also just changed line again for March now that Febuary is over. March is going to be a busy month. I may change it half way through the month. I know some guides who change their line out weekly and check their line after each day of fishing. I guess the best guide would be that if it crosses your mind as a worry, changing it could be best.

When I still used mono mainline (all I use now is braid, because of the sensitivity, mending, and durability) I would always test it two different ways: first, I would put the line between the tips of two fingernails, and run as much of it as I could to feel any nicks, and if I felt one, I'd cut above that. Second test was to loosely loop the line around my thumb, and slide it over my thumb, still looped. Oftentimes your thumb will feel things that your fingernails won't.

Likewise, hold your line up to a light, or the sun, and if you see any white spots, it means your line's been stretched or gotten to warm from the sun. Once I got any spool less than 100 yards, I'd replace it, and if nothing else, save the rest for leader.
Cheers,
L
