Hi,

Newbie here. I live in Scappoose and am looking for advice on areas nearby to take my 4 yr old boy fishing for panfish, bullheads(catfish) and bass. Can anyone help?

I live in Scappoose also. To go do that kind of fishing, I go out to the dike. good fishing when the water gets warmer, but you can still catch them, just not as much.Lance

Let me be the first to welcome you to the board . Try fishing down by the boat ramp . Put a cork on your line and a split shot about a foot below that . Put your hook about a foot below that with a worm on it . If you doin!t get bit reset your cork or bobber so that your worm is deeper . Keep moving it till you find the fish . The water is pretty cold this time of year . It will be warmer in about a month and should pick up and get better as the water gets warmer . The warmer the water the better the fishing . Please feel free to come to the next meeting of the Oregon Bass And Panfish Club . It will be Thursday Jan.22,2004 .The address is 3700 S.E . 17 th ave Portland Or . Please say hello to any one .. The people there are great . Ask questions . If the people can!t answer it ask to talk to a board member . We will get you an answer . Be there around 7 :00 pm and meet some fellow panfishermen and panfisherwomen too Look me up and ask for Bert . I hope that i didn!t ramble on to long . If i!m not the first to welcome you .... Welcome to the board .

This ol northwest is great. Just about any body of water you pass over or beside has some warmwater fish in it. The creek going into scappose can be good. The main river has all kinds of fish and taking your son down to almost any boat ramp with a good ol worm on the bottom will get you some action. It's a little drive for you but Savies Island has all kinds of cats, and panfish.

If you have a boat, try going out of Scappose Bay near St. Helens. Lots of warmwater fish in the bay and not a lot of currant to interuppt your fishing with a kid. Out along the mill there are pilings that hold bass and other fish. Be careful getting out of the boat lane as there are lots of areas that are shallow and there is a tide that goes in and out.
