Default Question on Dorena and Cottage Grove Res.

Just looking for some general info on when a guy can expect to start having some success on either of these reservoirs? I realize weather and temperature are going to be factors but was wondering on average when a person could expect to start hooking some bass? I'm willing to fish the whole day for a couple of bites especially if they are larger fish. Also, I read an article on targeting big fish and they were recommending 10 & 12 inch worms and slow rolling large heavy spinner baits in deeper water. Just curious if anyone has had success on larger fish with these types of lures or similar types? Thanks very much!

Hagen, you're too kind

FM the fishing at CG will be consistently good when the water starts to flood the upper end, usually in April. Before that you can have some spectacular days there if warm weather comes in and stays for awhile. You can also have some miserable days. CG is an easy fishery though, it fishes small and there's usually some bass willing to bite.
Are there bass in Dorena? It fishes great in April too.

Nitro, I can only direct people where the true knowledge is. As it seems I can only catch only one or two fish in tourney's there. We are once again going to be fishing Dorena in the first part of May and everone is hoping for results like last year.

nitrobass,

I really appreciate the info. I don't have a fancy bass boat just an alumaweld sled with a bow mount electric but it works for me. I mostly fish for salmon and steelhead but I'm really starting to enjoy bass fishing. I just don't get out to do it that often. I was hoping to make a couple of trips this spring before the heavier pressure started in the hopes of finding a pig or two. I didn't think I would have to wait until April...maybe will luck out and have a warm spring. I'll probably end up fishing for Spring Chinook anyways. Thanks again for the info.

Nitro, it looks like I might be on a limited tourney schedule this year as my plant that I work for is closing here in Salem. But I may try to make one or Two ABA's along with selected club tourney's. We start again at Shasta in Feb. and March. Then move to Irongate for April. Dorena in May, Trinity in June, and as usuall Crane in July, August puts us at Tenmile, Sept is a split weekend at Tack on Sat and Siltcoos on Sunday. Then back to Irongate in Oct. Now All I have to do is figure out which one's to Fish.

Was out CG couple hours on Sunday it was good for me. Be careful though, you shouldn't try to get a bout in unless you have 4x4. We caught twelve all over 2 biggest pushing five.

Fishing Maniac, nitrobass will be your expert on when fishing should start to pick up. But I would definatley be thinking soon. My boat is at my dad's place until my first tourney Feb 21st. Then I will be making trips down there that you can bet on.

Thanks for the report Okee! I guess those fish don't care that were in the middle of Winter. More incentive for me to just go out and take my chances.

Twelve in just a couple hours? How many can you catch if you were to fish all day? Sounds like it is time to fire up the big moter, and go catch some green fish! Way to go Okee!
