Medic First Aid/CPR training needed
My daughter needs certification and I don't think I have time to get her into a class.
Know an instructor? Are an instructor? PM me, please?
Thanks!

Call the red cross or American heart Association.

Re: Medic First Aid/CPR training needed
That would be fine for CPR, but not for the 1st aid portion.
Most classes are 2-day courses and that is totally unnecessary. Both can be learned in a day - 6 hours, usually. We don't have time for a 2-day course, especially if the 1st aid will be lacking.

Re: Medic First Aid/CPR training needed
LBCC has classes three times a term for 1st aid and CPR. they are usually weekends.
try your local community college.

Re: Medic First Aid/CPR training needed
Red Cross offers BOTH First Aid and CPR in one 6 hour course...but you'll have to call to get in...and like you said...you may not have time. Probably takes two weeks...but that's a guess.
I'd call Red Cross and see if maybe they have someone who's an instructor that would be willing to help you out.

Re: Medic First Aid/CPR training needed
When I'm trying to be brief, I tend to leave too much out. Sorry :depressed:
Shree-imp joined Explorer post 877 in Washington County. She went for her first weekend of training and that's when they gave her the calendar of trainings. Pretty much every weekend until JUNE!
Unfortunately (and we discussed this before she was accepted and at the orientation meeting, too), she was to miss the weekend that included CPR/Medic 1st aid, due to her Great Grandmother's 90th b-day celebration in CA. (can't exactly ask grandma not to turn 90!)
She must have MEDIC First Aid (not red cross 1st aid)
So, with her weekends very full, most week nights very full, and of course she's going to school during the day... I was hoping someone here knew someone who could work with her outside of a regular class.
Aside from that, last time I checked (granted, it's been a long time since I was a kid) you couldn't get a certification in CPR/1st aid through Red Cross until you were 16. Shree-imp is 14. But she must have it for Explorers as they do a lot of search and rescue.
Ran into a problem with the age thing when I had to get her app notorized as well. Notory is for adults... But for the Sheriff's dept, no prob. It's just that she had to go out of process, not utilizing their resource and it became a real headache.
Long story short, it would just be way easier all the way around to find a private party willing to do this (I need re-certification, too and there may be other kids who missed the certification weekend), outside of normal channels.

Re: Medic First Aid/CPR training needed
Not quite first responder, but she does need splinting, packaging for transport, and triage, etc..
I can do the training as I've had years of it myself through the fire dept, CERT, etc., but I can't certify her. That's a problem. I guess I should have just become a certified instructor along the way. Heck, I'm certified by FEMA to teach the CERT program.
I can get an "Annie" if you can get a card and if you're still allowed to sign off on one.

Re: Medic First Aid/CPR training needed
have you called the local fire departments?? especially the volunteer ones...I was EMT/fire 12 years and most of the depatrments I came into contact with had regular classes. I still have friends around but it may take time to arrange. how soon does she need the cert to be done??

Re: Medic First Aid/CPR training needed
Ideally by the 12th of March. If you could check with a few folks, that'd be awesome. Right now, we have Tues/Wed/Fri evenings pretty much open. I sure don't mind paying someone for their time.

Re: Medic First Aid/CPR training needed
I am no longer an instructor. I know of a couple but I am not sure if they are doing it on the side or not. They mainly do our people here at work. I wish I could help more.
Yes, try a fire department. They would know. Red Cross and AHA will know of private instructors as well. I think that would be your best bet.

Re: Medic First Aid/CPR training needed
Jen I did a quick search of the PCC website and all thier classes for the term are up, they wont have naything starting until 3rd week of march.
BUT< I did find a number to call to contact them about a Medic first Aide Instructor registry...a list of all instructors they certify.
Upon successful completion you will be part of the Medic First Aide Registry. Texts required. For information, call 503-731-6633.
give them a call!!

Re: Medic First Aid/CPR training needed
I am an instuctor. Where do you live? Did you say Washington County? If so call Tuality Hospital. The Health Education Center's # is 681-1704. The head instructor is Candi Dana. I teach thru the hospital and mainly just do CPR. It has been a while since I did a Medic First Aid, but they will tell you when and where...

Re: Medic First Aid/CPR training needed
Go to: www.cprlifeline.com
They do both Medic and AHA CPR/First aid classes, some of them may be at TVFR's Training Center in Sherwood.
