Re: Who has been fishing this year?bass
HUH....Not me, I must be what you'd call a fair weather basser. Because I live and fish for bass mostly in the PDX area I prefer to let the waters get a bit warmer first. However, if I lived near the central costal lakes, I'd be hitting some of those lakes for largmouth on some of the sunny days they get early in the year.
Springers are next in line for me to be serious about.

Re: Who has been fishing this year?bass
Shalom is right. Today is the kind of sunny day one would like to get out and do some fishing. Unfortunately for me, I have not even bought a 2004 fishing license yet. But don't be fooled by sunny weather, The waters around the Metro area are less than 50 degrees and bass are likely to be less than active.

I have to tell you fishing is already good in Eugene Area. I was out for 2.5 hours and had 12 over two pounds on Sunday.

Re: Who has been fishing this year?bass
okee
Ol green peter is a year round fishery as I'm sure you know as long as you can launch. (sometimes snow slows us down)
I've heard some good stories out of ten mile in the last couple of weeks.
I'm going to fish for ol steelies maybe twice more and then it's going to be fishing the river all over again. It seems temp isn't really as critical as location and speed of presentation. One year we caught them in the willy every month. Only time I really don't like it is if theres big logs coming down or major flooding.

Re: Who has been fishing this year?bass
I think at this tiome of year it is getting the bait in their face and keeping it there. Drop shoting is the best as far as I am concerned. It really doesn't matter the bait.

Re: Who has been fishing this year?bass
Hey Wannabe, what does the water temp have to be up there before you hit the river? I have caught them up there at 45 degrees. Took me awhile to find them, but once I did I caught quite a few in the 1-3 pound range from small areas.

Re: Who has been fishing this year?bass
Hey Okee, do you think that the technique was more important to you catching all those fish, or the bait? Since you probably won't mention the bait, how about depth, location, why you even went there, can you do it all the time this early in the year? More info!

Re: Who has been fishing this year?bass
Monkeyboy,
I almost think location is more important than temp and drop shottin will get them to bite just a bit better as you can almost hand feed em. I know when we used to fish green P. that if the temp reached 49 in the spring we'd joke that the bite was going to slow down. I also am believing more and more in electronics. If I don't see fish below on the lil TV when we drift through an area I usually don't stay long. I may come back later during a different tide or condition. "No Patience" I guess.

Re: Who has been fishing this year?bass
Sorry it took mr so long to mrespond I am in Indianopolis for the last three days. I caught most of the fish in the main channel of the lake fish are deep. Most fish were in 15 to 25 feet deep. I was using a arron magic 4 inch. I have to tell you though the guy Iwas with was drop shoting the ugliest worm I had ever seen. I don't even know what it was. It was a blueish green thing. He out fished me untill the last thirty minutes. I will tell you this, it is only going tom get better. Water being stable and keeping the bait in their face are the most important issues. As far as location goes find areas where shallow meets deep really quickly. i will be going next week if the weather holds and water level stays stable. I think you can fish CG all year, but i generally won't start fishing untill January.

Let me know if anyone else will be there next weekend. As I will most likely be there if I can find someone with 4x4 to get me in and out.I will share more specifics. Nitro, I know you know where all those CG fish are.

Re: Who has been fishing this year?bass
Thanks for the intro guys. I've heard of this site from Okee and thought I'd sign up. I've been chasing bass for about 10 years up here and like to fish tournaments now and again. I haven't fished for bass since January 2 when I went to Clear Lake CA and dunked some live minnows. Had a blast with over 40 fish caught between 3 of us. Most were 2-3 lbs, with 5 that were over 5. Biggest fish went around 6 lbs. We were fishing Jumbo (4-6") minnows on split shot rigs in 8-25 feet of water on points and rockpiles in the South End. That is my only story for now. Hopefully more to come soon.

I fished about one hour today on coastal lake. Had one hit on a blue-black ring tube 4". Weighed about 4-41/2#. Can't wait until the water warms a little more.
