Default Pretied Snelled Hooks - do you use them?

Was talking to someone at GIJoe's and he advised that these are easier to fish with since you can swap them out quickly with a snap swivel on the main line. Just curious how many people out there use them?

Sometimes, But tie my own. Don't like the commercially available one. Too weak.

I'm not big on 30lb mono leader pre-tied on a #14 baitholder hook. I do pretie my own for salmon, kokanee, sturgies, etc. They can sure be convenient

I've found two problems with most pre-tied snelled hooks. 1. Leader is awful..most of the time the weight to dia ratio is way out of proportion compared to better quality leader. 2. Leaders are too short. I've seen a lot of people attach the loop to a snap swivel and put sinkers directly above the snap swivel. Most of the time, the leader length doesn't even meet the regulations rquirement of 12" between weight and hook.

Here's what I do if I'm powerbait plunking with the kids: I use a sliding sinker on the main line - put that on first. Then, I'll thread on a plastic bead. Tie on a barrel swivel. Tie 18" of leader to the swivel, then tie the hook on. This works great with floating bait - kind of like a slider for sturgeon fishing.

My .02

Not catching any trout for my first 10 years of fishing can probably be attributed to pre snelled hooks. They're a joke. Don't use them.

I rig up the same way Oregon Redside described. The sliding sinker I use is called a mojo. Nowadays I even forego the swivel and instead use T-stops. This allows you to position the weight anywhere on your line.

Learn how to tie your own, well. Then don't use the store-bought pre-tied rigs. You can control the variables better by doing it yourself. I never buy pre-tied anything.
