Default $75 panfishing rig?

Anyone have suggestions as to what to look for in specs for a rod/reel combo for lake fishing for panfish?

Is the uglystik lite a decent rod for this?
Was looking at the 6'2" Light action 4-8 lb test model.

Not sure what to look for in lighter weight spinning reels in the ~$30 reels.

I could go to FM or Joe's and ask them but I can get some feedback from more people on this board.

Any input appreciated.

I like my New and improved Mitchel 300. Have it on a Cabelas IM6 Pro Guide rod. Good for smallies, crappie, bluegill, other pabnfish, cats etc. $50 for whole deal.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helvetica">Ah - cool - thanks for that info... just checked it out in their catalog.

What weight pole would be best for those smaller fish? 2-8 lb or 4-8 lb? (I'm thinkin about the 2-8 lb)

$5 over my limit got me an Okuma EF15 spinning reel and a 6' light action Berkley Lightning Rod thanks to the 20% off GIJoe's coupon.

I picked up some 6 lb Trilene smooth casting line and did some fishing at Lacamas Lake today. The spool seems a little small... I was thinking though if I went to a braided line I could fit more on the spool. The 6lb weights in at .009 - Spiderline stealth has a 20lb at .006 I was thinking about but I'll get more time on this spool and see how it goes. They also have some braided line in 10lb at .002 dia - I could really fit more line on with that size.

I also picked up a 'Fishing for Dummies' book as there are a lot of the basics of panfishing that I don't know.
