1st Time drifting the wilson!!!!!!!!
Came down to Hillsboro from Hobart this past friday to hook up with my two uncle's and do some steelheadin on the Wilson.I've fished the Wilson from the bank as a kid and teenager but never from a drift boat, and neither have my uncle's,so I said I'd row his boat down being the first time.Saturday we launched @ Mills and took out @ sullies, the normal drift. We launched the boat And headed down to the what I call guide shop hole. There was four other boat's anchored below us so we had to take the upper section above the water fall.We pounded this for a half hour then pulled anchor and headed out but was drifting down to the next boat when uncle Paul hooks up on the move,he landed a nice 9lb buck fin clip,BONK.Heading down stream drifting every little stretch and pocket we didn't touch anything until we got down to the Donaldson area.As we pulled into the hatchery program there was 10 boat's in that stretch. We slid in below three boat's and above six other's and pounded it for 10 minutes right where the pipe enters the river, this to me was not the place to spend much time as the prime water was occupied. So we headed down to the next stretch which had just two boat's in it one at the head and one in the middle so this left us no choice to take the all mighty tail out,as we got the boat positioned the boat just above us hook's up with bobber and some thing, but lost it during the fight. We started pounding the water and was into fish right away,as I hooked something big and powerfull that ended up breaking my 10lb UG main line,I was bumbed being it was gonna be my first on the wilson.Just minutes later I was into another one this one was a chrome bright 5 to 6lb hen.BONK,ten minutes after that uncle Roger hook's up with a real nice 11lb chrome bright native hen that was released with care. Then fifteen minutes later I hooked into a nice little bright 7lber that ended up being a downer and was released. We had hooked 5 landed 4 by 10:30 a.m. and was feelin good about our first time drift. We only saw one other fish hooked and not one landed. All of our fish we're hooked on rag's and sandshrimp. We didin't pull any plug's.I felt this was a productive trip as there was around twenty five boat's out that day.Sunday was a whole different story as we didn't hook a thing and only had one bite between the three of us.This is my story and I'm stickin with it.Good luck,

Re: 1st Time drifting the wilson!!!!!!!!
Sunday was definately SLOW!!
What boat where you in?
We fished it Sunday, we were in a unpainted "Diamond Back", with 3 of us on board.
We did lose a nice fish and released a nice Native...

Re: 1st Time drifting the wilson!!!!!!!!
We were out there on Sunday too. Unpainted Diamond Back with a White Gamakatsu sticker on the back. My brother and I luanched at about 8:30 and pulled out around 3:30. I had one savage strike on a Pink Worm  and that was it. Only saw one other fish cuaght all day. Sounded like Saterday was the day to go, nice job.

Re: 1st Time drifting the wilson!!!!!!!!
Great report.
Family matters kept me away from the river this weekend, so I really look forward to reading reports like this. It's almost as good as being there!
Thanks.
