MY favorite would be a red and white tube tied about 18 inches higher than a green and white tube . I like a 1/64 oz on both of them . I call them my stop and go baits they see the red and white and stop to look ,just like a traffic light .When you see red you stop . Then they see the green and bite . Late last fall i started useing a road runner for a search bait and found them to work well and cover a lot of water fast . You can!t fish them wrong as long as you fish them slow ...... An added bonus was bass like them as well as crappies . Please remeber to realese bass . Keep as many crappies as you like to eat .Good luck .

Ps .All joking aside crappies will bite red and white tubes as well as green and white .

1/32nd oz northland fire fly jig in Chartreuse tipped with a white crappie nibble. If fishing deep water, tight line the jig by adding a small split shot about 9 inches above the hook.

Regardless of what size or color jig used, I've always found that the critical ingredient was having a Crappie Nibblet on the hook. I've seen the rate of hits by both crappie and bass drop drastically when the nibblet was gone.

I use different baits at different times. In Feb and March 1" tubes and marabous on 1/64 head work pretty well on inactive fish. From then on 1 1/2"tubes in white, chartreuse, smoke, red/white and lots of other colors on a 1/32 or 1/16. Bobby Garland 2" baby shad in hologram and Kalin's 2" grub in acid rain were hot baits this year.In late fall and winter it's hard to beat cut bait.
I caught my first crappie 40 some years ago on a Go-Getter. It had a silver metal body with red and white chicken feathers sticking out. How times have changed.

iT WAS AN ACCIDENT. I forgot to mention that i put a crappie nibblet ( White seems to work best of all the colors )on my tube baits . Berkley Power bait makes them . Bi -Mart has them . Most of the larger sporting good stores carry them but i like to buy them at Bi-Mart and they seldom run out .

I haven't caught a crappie since I was a kid. Where and when can I go to catch crappies in the Portland area +- 100 miles this time of year? I have a drift boat with a trolling motor. Anyone have any luck lately??

You can't beat a bobber and worm i have never out fished one yet when it comes to Crappie. In Californa we used small live minnows but that is not alowed in oregon.

purple flu flu jig in spring, pink and white summer to fall. But, sometimes you just have to toss many colors to find the right one. I usualy pull the jib under a small round bobber. The action of the bobber rolling across the top of the water adds a nice touch to the jig swimming below. Very slow retreieve, and watch the bobber, as any deviation from it's normal return usually indicates a fish.
