Default Timothy Lake

Would fishing Timothy lake this time of year be worthwhile? Thinking of taking advantage of the fair weather this weekend.

OOOhhhh, you bet it would. I wish I could get up there. The water may be low, but this way you will be able to plot the natural river beds and enter it in to the GPS. stay in the channel and fish like you would. Drop your lead to the bottom and crank up two cranks.

If you get anything, let us know. I would like to make a trip up too. Get the camper out of storage and go relax.

I don't think mountain streams and lakes are open unitl May. I could be wrong, but definitely check first.

Boat monkey --- the lake is open year round if you can get to it---- the next problen is lauching a boat --- they usually draw it down this time of year making it difficult to launch--- then like mentioned fish the slightly above bottom with shrimp or crawdad tails ---

Normally there would be way too much snow to get there ... but it sounds like a great idea!

Interesting... Sounds like jig fishing could be productive as well. Bring the Thinsulate though!

A couple years ago I went up there early in the year. I hit a little ice at about 4000 feet. I was going to turn around when I noticed they had started sanding the road, os on I continued. I hit the turnoff to Timothy lake just at daybreak. The road to the lake was plowed 1 lane with 4 foot snowbanks on the sides. I got to the lake and found that the plowing stopped about 100 yards fron the waters edge on the ramp. The ramp was covered with about 2 feet of snow and ice. I drove back over the dam to the picnic area to use the restroom. Looking at the water at the picnic area I noticed a gentle hard slope and I thought it's a natural ramp. I might mention I had not seen another person since I left 26. I backed my trailer in and launched my boat. The water was still with no wind and I had the whole lake to myself. Using my fishfinder I located some large schools of kokes and started fishing. I the kokes for about 3 hours and enjoyed the solitude. I started thinking that I should cut the day short since I was up there alone, and was out of cell phone range. I was enjoying myself while at the same time thinking that if I fell in the water alone it would be bad (I wore my lifejacket all day). I motored over to the picnic area, recovered my boat and went home to enjoy my favorite fish to eat. If I were you I would consider an early trip to Timothy lake. If it turms out that you can't fish the view is still killer.

If the water is low, the one boat ramp that is recommended to use is the Pine Point Ramp. It on the West side of the lake and the 1st ramp you see if you came from Ripple Brook(57).

I may see you out there, I am trying to convince the wife and dog to go out for a day on Saturday. , got the dog to agree..that was the easy part..now I got to work on getting the wife to go Suppose to be nice weather. Should be some good holdover trout in there.

Yeah, I was just looking for water level info online (none) and boat ramp levels (none). But, I did find the phone number to the nearby Forest Service office 503-622-7674. I'll give them a call, I'm not expecting great info but who knows. The lake is at 3,100ft elevation. Probably not a stitch of snow at that level. I should do an air recon, but no daylight free time right now for that.

They block Skyline road off of 26 every year. It will be open April 15th, if not sooner, this year. You should try and go the back road through Estacada, and Ripplebrook. The last 7 miles up the gravel road might be a little bad, but it is out of the snow line, I'm sure. I haven't been up there on this back road since the floods of '96, but I know the road is open. Again the last 7 miles is where you might have trouble. There is a gate there and I don't know if it is locked.

You can head down to Detroit Res. On this back road too. Just don't take the Timothy Lake Exit.
