i have been using the simmons 6x18x40 prohunter for several years and it is a very good scope for the money.it works great on my 22/250 and i have had it on a 300 win mag and it can take a licking and still hold zero.fogproof, shockproof, waterproof.

BSA's are low end scopes but the Sweet 17 has been impressing quite a few who have actually tried them. Many on the rimfire/shooting boards have been giving them a "thumbs up". I looked at one awhile back and was surprised at how clear and bright the optics were for a $100 scope.

Going used is good advice, as you can get some good optics cheap, but I wouldn't criticize you for buying the Sweet 17. You can get them at MidwayUSA for $99 and have next day or 2nd day shipping if needed.

It's all about application and need. I have a few cheap Tasco's that do really well and a Zeiss that does really well (plus other brands in between). Kinda like fishing rods. You have your GLoomis, Lamiglas, and then you have your Cabela's Whuppin Stick, Berkely rod, etc. All of them will catch fish but if you break the Cabela's rod you won't start crying neither.

YMMV

PS: Maybe you should name the boat "Sweet 17". Of course that could land you into trouble with the law, the wife, or the girlfriend.... or all 3 .

Undoubtedly, there are those who impress easily.

That isn't much of a resume and the facts is,that BSA is a firm who's sole function is to market junk,to the unsuspecting.

None of that supposition.....................

I have BSA 2X7 Sweet Seventeen, it lasted on the gun about three weeks its back in the box on the junk shelf. The elevation turret on top the scope that is marked in yards for the hummer will turn when you touch it, it has no lock. So you will start missing several shots high out rat hunting, check the yardage marks and it will be on 150yd instead of 100yd or its on 125yd instead of the 175yd mark it was on, it has some how been bumped or brushed. I don't know if this problem is just with my scope or if thay are all like that, it is a pain in the a$$.

we have been talking about a less than $100.00 dollar scope for non dangerous game weapons. i can see no reason to be upset about this type of thing, now if we where talking about putting a less than $100.00 scope on a 338 win mag to hunt alaska for brown bear.

'526,

YOU are discussing throwing $100 out the window for naught and I'm trying to save the gent, both the loot and subsequent aggrevation.

I missed anyone being "upset",or the discussion of viable Bear Medicine...................

Ive heard alot about BSA good and some bad. Like others have said, Im not out hunting Big Brown Bears. I may pluck a yoty or a rabbit out my back porch with it or maybe take it with me to Burns for the chucks..... and what else would be best for a 17 in that price range..... but Im certainly not going into the slaughtering business with it! Nothing like plucking a crow out of a tree at 100 yards or more than laughing about it while your buddy loads his up for the next one.

I think you might get a lot more for your limited budget out of a used Leupold than a new cheapy scope...

I mean for less than $200 you can get a used 3x9 Leupold, and they will guarantee that thing no questions asked for the rest of your life dude..........if that's not a wise investment then what is ?

Buy a cheapy scope for $100 or so bucks, and even if it sits in a safe 360 days per year, you will still likely be buying another one in less than 10 years........and it's going to be performing like just what it is everytime you look through it too..........

I would rather see a guy get at least one quality piece of optics first, then ad some super cheapys to his collection later, and then after wasting his own money he can type his fingers bloody trying to help some total stranger shorten the learning curve..........

OOPS, Pulled my head out and read the beginning of the thread and see that you are wanting something in the 6-18 size...........but would still consider at least looking for a used higher quality scope with a no questions warranty.
