First Post
My father took me fishing for the first time when i was three weeks old. He put me in a wicker creel, slung it over his shoulder and away we went fishing down the crooked river. Dad liked to fish all the way down river to where the Deschutes and the crooked river came together. Now that i think back about this i doint remember him telling me where he put his fish ? As i recall in later years he never returned with out lots of fish and there were allways several big ones. That was a long time a go ,long before the dam was built to form the resivoir. We would start going up there opening day of trout and return allmost every weekend untill Paulina lake would open. Our first trip of the year to Paulina was allway one week before the season opened. The reason that we went a week early was to get three of our favorite camp sites , One for my aunt uncle couisin grandma and grandpa and ourselves. We would leave everthing ,boat motors tent and return to portland work untill the weekend then it was time to go back to Paulina lake for the week end to catch more fish .We did this for about fifteen years .We lost one shiney copper funell that was used to fill our coleman stove and lanters in all those years. We allways thought that a chipmunk must ran off with it.A fisherman in that day would never steal anything. My how times have changed. My gramdpa and uncle loved the area so much that they moved to lapine and opened the first garage towing and gas station.Dad must have done something right because i still go fishing ever chance that i get and i am now retired from work.I fished for summer steelhead in the lower Deschutes for thirthyfive years .Iguided overnight trips going up river to macks canyon for twelve years until I got tired of the crowds of people. I then decided to sell my sled and buy a Ranger walley boat to fish for bass and walleye. I've been bass fishing for three years now. I thought it would be easy to catch bass. I then how to catch summer steelhead and it wasn't hard at all. how tough could it be to catch bass? I have never been so humbled by a fish in all my life. It has been a great learning experience. An old dog can still learn new ways to catch fish. My two favorite places to catch fish are Brownlee Resevoir and PrinevilleResevoir. I like to fishfor bass first, but I enjoy catching crappie, perch, and channel cat fish. I hope to meet some of the I Fisf.net members at the jamboree on Dec. 6 at the Canby Fair grounds. Keep a tight line always.

Great story. Welcome aboard.
And definetly try Oxbow, in my opinion, it's the finest bass fishery in Oregon. Nothing comes close.

Welcome Shalom. I too have fond memories of the "*****ula" before it was inundated. As for Newberry caldera, my Dad went to East Lake every year from 1928 until his death two years ago.
Next time you're in Baker County, try Oxbow rez; I've had some great days there for smallies.

Re: First Post
Great story. Used to live in Bend. East lake kicked out some large bows over the years. Prineville is fun place to chase Bass. I wish you future success.
