I was just wondering if many of you were going to the Bassin Jamboree the first of December?

I'll be there! In fact, I will be helping either with the set-up or take-down, depending on when I'm needed. I missed last years, so I am looking forward to it. Go to the Oregon BASS Federation websight for more information. It looks like Don Iovino and Mark Kile will be featured.

I do not belong to a tournament bass club. The bassin Jamboree seems to cater to those people who do. I'm not saying one has to belong to a tournament club to attend the Jamboree. Its just that it seems that the event is organized around tournament clubs.

Last time I attended, the event was held at the Monarch Hotel off HWY 205. That was a while back. I did not know many of the people there and they did not know me. When I went to share ideas with others, I felt I was getting a cold shoulder. When I work our clubs' booth at the sportmans show , I'm always happy to answer any questons anyone may have and talk fishing with them in a friendly manner regardless of whether I know them or not.

Maybe the format has changed since then. But I have not felt like going back.

There was some very cool stuff at the tables though.

Ahh bucketmouth, that's the kind of reception I usually get from the guys in the sparkely gofast boats when I try to converse with them, so I know exactly how you feel. This year while we were on out vacation at Siltcoos the Umpqua Valley Bassmasters had a club tourney at the lake. When the wife and I went over to watch the weigh-in and try to talk to some of the guys you'd have thought we had the plague or somthing. A mother and son team that were fishing out of an old john-boat were as friendly as could be though, they suggested I get me some Brush hogs and try them, so I did and on the third cast the next day stuck a 4.5lber!

I'm sorry some of these guys are this way, jeez, just because my boat isn't as fancy as theirs and doesn't go as fast doesn' mean I don't catch my share of basses!

Smj & Bucketmouth,
It's a sad that people are like this. I experienced this many years ago on the Metolius fly fishing. The big boys with the fancy cloths and gear wouldn't even recognize me with my simple gear even though I was really catching the fish and they were just watching fish. We could go on and on about this but theirs really no need other than maybe to vent a little with friends. Any sport seems to have a few "unique individuals" that can give a sour taste to things. Oh, and the Jamboree is put on for everyone, but mostly clubs do attend due to poor advertising I believe mostly. There are some great deals there and some great information also. For the most part I think the people are pretty receptive also. The money they make goes for holding the Western Divisionals this upcoming year.
Fishfeet...check out oregonbassfederation.org for all the info.
OH....Smj it's actually not to bad around here in Dec. People just seem to chase other fishes. Green Peter can be awesome, I have caught smallies in the river if it's not blown. But steelhead are easier.

OH Ya Wannabe, I know it's not just the guys in the "Sparkelygofastboats" that behave that way

It's amazing how much respect I gained from the salmon steelhead fleet when I upgraded from my 13' Smoker with the 9.9 Honda to the 17.5' Smoker with the 75hp, 9.9kicker, front mounted 55 Minnkota etc. I've always said that the amount of water you own is directly proportional to the size and cost of the boat you have, and that is no more apparent than with the salmon steelhead fleet.

smj et al,

I am sorry you have received that kind of reception from some bass anglers. I have a "sparklygoeskindafastboat" and I still sometimes get a cold shoulder from others on the water, especially if they are fishing a tournament. For me, fishing with a club should be more about comraderie and sharing info, along with some friendly competition. When I am on the water, I will always say hello to someone who may be fishing near me, and I will share whatever techniques may be working for me that day. Of course, if they don't want to talk, there's not much you can do except shrug it off.

The Jamboree does seem to cater more to clubs, but there is also some good information to be gained. Chuck Lang generally gives an update of ODFW policies concerning warmwater fisheries, which can be very informative. I would really like to hear Don Iovino talk about finesse worm techniques and how to get the most out of your electronics for fishing. If you have never been to one, I think you should try it at least once. It would be kind of nice to meet some of the people who post here, since everyone seems pretty cool.

halomidge.....thanks for the chuckle..that was great. I had trouble pulling it up earlier but its at the Clackamas County Fair Grounds at the East end of Candby. Date and time are Dec. 6th from 8:00-5:00. They'll have food, raffle, speakers and sponsers and you'll hear of a lot of fishin stories too.

Smj....ya hit the nail on the head and one of the nice things about those shiny boats is you can try out a new area in just a few minutes. I used to have a 14 foot Gregor and I looked at bodies of water as how long it took me to get places. What a difference from 50 horses to 225. A 30 minute lake is just hop and skip now. But there are still definite advantages to the smaller boats too, actually quite a few....smaller payments, less gas, don't have to buy as much tackle to fill it...etc. Tight lines

Just wanted to chime in. I am a money tourney and club fisherman. I don't fish the BASS tournys. I have been to the Jamboree for the past several years and have enjoyed them for the most part. I am sorry for the way some bass anglers act. Infact even though I participate in club and money tourneys there are several fisherman who act towards me the same way even at the club level. Doesn't make much sense if you ask me. The Jamboree is put together and built around the Oregon BASS. The clubs go just to get the Bass schedule so that they can set there scedule for the year.
That being said seeing all the new stuff and the deals you can get are worth the trip. There will be auctions and drawings all day for high dollar stuff. There will be a speaker from a major tour circut talking about his technic. I will be there I enjoy talking to anyone about technics and or equipment. I will be wearing the SOONER hat.

The B.A.S.S. Federation does a lot more than just schedule and run tournaments. Yes they get first pick on the dates and places for the year ( It's actually done by a seinority process ), but they work with ODF&W a lot more closely than what most people think. The Oregon federation has long been supported by the ODF&W and has looked to the federation members for comments and ideas on many warm water fish issue's.

As far as B.A.S.S. goes, I wouldnt belong to the organization if it wasnt for the local federations. The federations do more for my favorite sport fish than anyone else that I can think of.

I have only fished a few B.A.S.S. federation tournaments over the years, and really enjoyed them. It's a great way to learn. I'm for the most part just a fun fishermen, who enjoy's taking my son out for the occasional club tourney. He loves the attention he recieves from the other anglers, and really enjoy's the trophies he has been lucky enough to win. And I really believe that it is teaching him good ethic's and to respect people and the enviroment more. He looks forward to every one of the day's we go to fish a club tourney. We belong to a B.A.S.S. affiliated club that schedules a few fun club tourneys a year.

The B.A.S.S. federation as a whole is a great organization, I am proud to be a part of it. They are truelly standing up for my favorite game fish. So come by the Jamboree and check it out. It's a lot of fun!!

I will be easy to spot, I'm the short, fat, bald, and ugly guy wearing a Roll's Battery hat.

Hey Rebel,
What a description!!!!!That covers a lot of fishermen. I plan on being there but if I can I want to and have wanted to go to Shasta and fish their first tourney in December...it used to be called the Magic Worm tourney or something like that. But I've always wanted to fish it. So if things come together I'm heading south. Would feel kind of funny though, I've gone to the Jamboree for so many years. Will have to see though...have some issues going on right now so will see.

okee...You must belong to the Emerald Bass Club down there? I e-mailed them for info a couple of years ago on Cottage Grove Res. and someone from that club was extremely helpful to me. I'm guessing it must have been the business mgr. for the club or something. Cool thing was, he had my e-mail and was sending me the same info that was going out to club members, I realy enjoyed it 'till I had to change my e-mail addy.

I may just show up at the Jamboree, even though it's pretty hard for me to get excited about bassin' at the begining of steelhead and less than a month from sturgeon again.

Seein' as everybody likes to give descriptions of themselves, I'll be the guy with the hairy face, BASS hat and the good lookin' blonde wife on his arm!

Hey guys, up here in Washington the Jamboree is a bass tournament held every year by BASS on Banks Lake for all the State Federation clubs to get together and compete against each other. Do the Oregon clubs do a similar thing?

From what I heard it came off pretty good. I didn't get to go hear the speakers as I was working in a booth but right after they talked the booths they were working in were pretty busy. A friend of mine said Don Ivino was real good. They had some good prices too. Also that Skeet Reese cranking rod is hopefully going to find a place under the tree this year. Basically it was a great time talking to people I haven't seen in a while.

Scottd,
We do this too and call it the North West Club Classic. It is supposed to be all NorthWest clubs. It was held at Scapoose this year each club can bring two teams. It is a great time.
The B.A.S.S. Jamboree was good this year. Good speakers. There were some good deals on equipment. Got a Good deal on new trolling motor.
71 Lbs. thrust motor guide for $300.

Please continue to be pleasant with one another on ifish.
If you can't do that, I'd prefer you take angry comments to e mail and leave ifish out of it.

It just breeds more ill will, and I don't like that here. I don't think you do, either. How could anyone?
