Default Umpqua Smallies II

They are still biting well in the deep pools. A buddy and me caught at least thirty fish in an hour and a half in the same thirty yard stretch of the river. 4" plastic worms, 1/32 oz. heads. Darker colors with purple and/or red worked the best and they seem to love that metal flake. I AINT EVER LEAVING THIS PLACE!!!!!!

At least 5-6 of them in the 14" class. Most being in the 10-12" range.

Hey N-B-net great job. You really have the river figured out.

I have always wanted to fish the Umpqua with my 14' Alum. boat [with 15 hp/ elect trolling motor] but have never been able to find an obvious entry point. You may be able to help me with may planning for next years fishing.

I would like to get into some small mouth but don't expect anything as successfull as you are. The most likely places that I see are the following - maybe you can advise on whether they have potential.

1-Elkton launch and upstream. How much far up stream can I fish? is it productive.

2-Scottsburg launch - above and in tide water.

3-Roseburg - in the north and south umpqua.

I would appreciate any ideas that you have that would help me plan. Thanks.

Continued good fishing.

Hey sjack, leave the boat home. The best Smallie fishing happens when the river seems to be at its lowest. Driftboats and one man cats are the rule. I have had some of my best days just fishing pool to pool along the bank. Shoot me an e-mail when you are going to come down and I will give you all the info you need. I AINT NEVER GONNA LEAVE THIS PLACE!!!!

Its one of the easiest rivers to fish and catch small mouth in. Like Nuttin said..4" plastics in dark colors with little on no weight and keep walking the shore till you find the fish then you might catch 25 to 50 in a hour in one place. Anyone can catch these fish with a little work without a boat. My wife and I make a half dozen trips each year to the Elkton area and always come home with bags of fillets. The best time for the larger fish are in the fall when the river comes up a foot or so and cools down 10 or more degrees. Fish it right after a heavy rain, fish deep pockets with a little current right along the edges of drop offs, just cast upriver and let the worm sink slowly floating around naturally...Wham,fish on. I pinch my barbs down because of the constant fish on, its just easier to release the dinks.
