Default Just Curious

October usually ends the year with the last club tournaments being fished. Also hunting is in full swing as well as salmon being hit hard and heavy. I was curious if anyone is out there still chasing smallies or largemouth. It's been quiet on this post so figured not to many of you are out there during this awesome time of the year.
Anyway, this is an awesome month to fish for bass and will probably stay this way into november as long as one doesn't just fish the bank.

Sbasser-an internnet bud from Lake
Washington-showed up last Thursday afternoon
with Nitro in tow and we went directly to P-town Rez where we each cot a half-dozen LM and SM before 7pm. They were hanging out together at the windward cliffs and the biggest pushed 16".
Friday we hit the banks of the John Day where Steve earned the title: "Lord of the Dinks" pitching wacky-rigged Senkos.
Saturday he was in Salem to compete in a fly-by-wire airplane competition.
Wannabe: I told him of your "Newberg" thread; don't know if he fished there or not.

Wannabe, I have been fishing the river and Hagg Lake on a pretty regular basis. All of September and as much as possible this month. I fish the Wilsonville stretch of the River as much as three times a week. When I read your thread about the Newberg area I was somewhat suprised at the size of the fish you were getting into. I almost always measure my fish and hardly ever weigh them. I have been getting into many very nice Smallies. Their average however, has been around 16 & 1/2 inches. You made me feel I was doing something wrong when you said you got into several 19 & 20 inch Smallies. And perhaps I am. I do not use Yum dingers. In fact I don't even know what they are. I have been using 3 inch case magic sticks though and they have been producing for me pretty well. When I cannot find fish spread out on large ledges, I go to deeper water and try Jigs and spider or hula grubs. Have done ok this way but largest so far has been 18 & 1/2 inches. Also have taken some great fish off the various laydowns and stumps along the shore.

I ran into a guy who says he trolls up & down the river from Boones landing up to Butteville & back using magnum warts. Says he does pretty good that way. He is there almost every Sunday morning. I saw him last sunday and he had gotten a couple 4 pounders.

Ok so there you have it. That is my report. I release all fish after taking digital camera pictures of them. There have been some really great days on the River this last two months. Love to be out there when the fog is rising off the waters surface and there is no wind, no Skiers and plenty of biting fish.

Thanks for the reports....just love fishing reports. I'd go to other places but work has me close to home this year. I'm getting to just love this river and it's different personalities. I've met that guy who trolls the warts...yup every Sunday...but now I work Sundays so haven't seen him this year. Between High Rocks and Newberg you couldn't fish it all in a month and I'm trying to learn the rivers different moods and one thing is for sure...those fish are always changing their minds and moving and picking different baits!!!!

Hey wannabe, glad to hear you have been catching some nice fish. I fish the Willamette at lot, mainly from Boones Landing down to the Falls. Recently, I had a friend in town for his twice-a-year smallie fix. We caught a lot of fish in three days, mainly on split shot rigged 4" cut-tails and senkos rigged weightless. The crankbait bite is still working early for me, but over half the fish we caught had crawfish feelers sticking out of their throats, so small plastics are getting more bites. We had two fish at twenty inches, but most were in the 12-16" range.

This is definitely a great time to be on the river! The bite is good, the weather is great, and the skiers are few!

I fished the channel tonight after work. Lot's of largemouth, the fishing right now is the best I have ever had for LM down here. I jumped in my buddies boat who had been out since noon, he had allready caught 30 plus LM, and when I got in we caught another dozen fish.

I battled the crowds at the coast salmon fishing last weekend, Im going bass fishing this weekend. No crowds, and a lot more fun.
