Default Visiting Madras/Redmond...what lake/res????

Next week, I'll be trailering the boat down to Madras/Redmond area, hoping to hook up with BukuBass for a bit of bassin', SM or LM. Another friend, Nils, has suggested a res out East of Madras. If I don't like it, what options do I have? Does Prineville Res. have bass? Detroit Lk.? I'm going to end up in Salem for the weekend (no fishing), then Corvallis Monday and home to Renton, WA. Would appreciate any ideas you guys can provide. C&R, Steve

Prineville Res has bass, both LM and SM. Should fish well right now too. Pretty standard resevoir fish - lots of steep naked banks with stumps, also some bluff walls that can be good.

Also in the Madras area are Lake Billy Chinook, Haystack Reservior and Lake Simtustus. All have bass. All are closer than Prineville. Don't pass up on fishing the Crooked River either. It can be execellent this time of year.

Thanks for all your help. I hooked up with Roger (BuKuBass) and we went out to Prineville Thursday afternoon. It got cold and windy, but we caught plenty of SM and a few LM, tho not real big. Roger got the biggest, a LM, on plastics. I threw mostly 4" Senkos Whacky rigged on circle hook, but also splitshot some. The Whacky rig works better in the wind than nose hooking Senkos, "anchoring" your line better.
Friday, we took Roger's truck and pooch and went out to the John Day and walked the bank. What beautiful country that is! Zillions of little SM, but I caught one that would keep in a T (over 12"). Great fun, good company, beautiful scenery,
and super pizza afterwards in Prineville. Wish I could post the pictures for you guys....C&R, Steve

Steve...It was my pleasure to show you around; I appreciate your wit and skill. The fishing could've been better, but I don't see how the pizza could've been; they do slather on the sausage.
SK...In Cen. Ore. the best pizza used to be from Papandrea's in Sisters. Time for a taste test; they're equidistant from me.

Buku, never had Papaandreas, Have you had the Hot n Spicy at the Cinnabar? If you like spicy stuff, its the best pizza you could have!

I am no longer a fan of "hot 'n'spicy" foods since I tangled with habanero peppers which left the entrance and exit of my digestive system permanently cauterized.

There's a Papandreas in Madras, too, and I'd already heard good things about it. I was happy enough at Abby's Pizza...or Pizza Hut. But the #1 Combo at the Cinnabar was definitely on another level of gastronomy. Anybody know the Northlake Tavern in Seattle? Another great pizza...get all the food groups in one stop. Grain, fruit (tomatoes are a citrus fruit), veggies, meat, dairy, beer. Hold the Senko's.

Speaking of Senko's, I mostly used the Pearl Blue 4" senkos, whacky rigged. Nose hooked, they didn't seem to interest the fish. This was interesting, because I've caught a lot of fish with nose-hooked Senkos, and just getting confident with the Whacky rigged method. I think it's best for active fish. It also works much better in any wind, which will tend to increase the fish activity level, so try it! I used the Yamamoto #4 Split Shot (circle) hook, straight through the middle in the egg sack area. I was wondering if it might work better hooked in the same area, but longitudinally, like would happen if you use the o-ring method. I need to try that. I can make the applicator tool, but I think each size Senko would need a different size o-ring and applicator. Anybody use it? There is a picture on Northern Bass Supply's homepage, at the bottom. It takes awhile to load all the pictures and other stuff. C&R, Steve http://www.northernbass.com/

In the Mid 80's there used to be a pizza parlor in Bend. It was located on Hwy 97 near the porsche Dealership. They served a hot & spicy pizza that I loved. Now the place is a tavern. But I miss that pizza to this day. I wonder if Cinnabar is serving the same Hot & Spicy pizza. I have never found a similar pizzza here in portland. I go to Prineville at least once a year. Think I'll try cinnabatr's next time i'm down there and see if it is the same recipe.
