Default Newberg

Finally took the boat up and beyond Newberg. Quite an experience if you go to the right to much up past the island. A bit shallow. Hooked some nice fish. We probably caught at least six in the 19 to 20 inch class...not huge by any means buy nice. Some fish were still long and lean. Could be why they were only around three pounds or so. Water temp still in the 60's and a lot of fish in the deeper water. Jigs and 3 inch Yum Dingers best. Won't say how many caught as no one would probably believe us. We saw one other person fishing. Awesome!!!!!

Wannabe: when I lived in Newberg I fished Ash Island quite a bit, nice smallies right up against the bank on the main stem not the slough side, after you get past all the dead fall on the island side, cruise the gravel at the top end of the island. If you know where the salmon fisherman are anchored, thats the area look for about 4-6 feet of water.good luck

Hawg caller! You`re giving away my favorite area!! Hard to fish it when the river level gets way down though. Yeh mon that does produce pretty good at times. All I`ve used in there is 4" watermelon lizards, and gotten pretty lucky seeing as I`m a novice at "bassin`". Seeyou all there sometime hopefully. Maybe I could learn something. Later all, Fishft.

Hey Wannabe! Sounds good! Those fish must have been really lean! 19-20 inchers are at least 4 pounders, if I`m not mistaken. Maybe even 5-6 pounders. Did the skinny ones fight as well as the chunks? The long lean ones sound like spawned out females. Maybe see you out there one of these day`s. Later, Fishft.

Wannabe,
Hey guys....fish were all strong...just long and lean. This should be the month they put on their feed sacks. Today I'm going to try and see if I can get a reaction bite going. Tried last time but had rejection. Normally fish a tube a lot but those little Yum Dingers have been awesome. Just have to find the right color on the right day. Tight Lines

Hey Wannabe,

Just thought I would let you know, the largemouth are snapping down here on my part of the river in a big way right now. I had 2 over 4lbs Sunday, and about 30 others from 1lb to 2 lbs.

Yeah it's fun right now.

Rebel,
October is such a beautiful month, not many skiers, a crispness in the air, and when you put that with some good company on the river and fish biting it's awesome. Saw one boat fishing yesterday, found three or four more spots that were very good. Had one smallie over four and several three's.
Yesterday was just a day of lots of sun, fish and blessing's from above.
