i've been weight lifting every other day for the past 2 years. right now i start at 8 reps of 170, and move up to 175 and do 6 reps, 180 4 reps, 185 2 reps, then do incline, squats and power cleans, keep me in a little bit of shape for lacrosse and other thing such as packing my monsterous limits of fish that i catch out of trials, haha yeah right. but i need to work on my gut now haha.

I used to lift weights before my shoulder went bad. It's fixed, but I'll never be able to lift like I used to.

A couple things I learned while dealing with a bad shoulder: While doing "flat" bench press, don't let your elbows come down farther than your chest (ie: don't let the bar come down far enough to touch your chest). This wreaks havoc on your rotator cuff. Also, incline bench is much easier on your rotator cuff than flat bench pressing. Be careful, shoulder surgery is no fun!

I haven't lifted wieghts in a few years. I really enjoy doing it but I seem to always get obsessed with it. 5 days a week, 2 to 3 hours a day, tons of protein shakes, tons of meat, cartons of eggs and amino acids. I start eating like a whale, 6 meals a day. I was spending anywhere between $20-40 a day just to eat a high protein diet. I guess I haven't had the money lately or else I'd be pumping the iron. Muscle has excellent memory, so everytime I take time off and then get back into it, it doesn't take me long to get back to where I was, even if it's been a few years. The last time I was in the gym was for only 7 months because I had injured my wrist playing soccer. But in that 7 months I went from 178lbs to 207lbs, 13.5in to 17.5in bicep and my chest increased by 7 inches. I'm a short stocky build just under 5'10 so it's real easy for me to pack it on. Now you have me all excited again, I have to get a new gym membership!!!!

My sister told me this once and coming from a woman I'm gonna have to go along with it! "it's not how much you can lift, it's how good you look!"

Does working out on a Bowflex three times a week count?

Part of a pre-employment physical was a grip strength test, and when I squeezed the contraption, the young ladies eyes about popped out of her head! She said I was in the upper 90 percentile... I credited it to bowling!

I havent touched a weight in over 3 years

I used to work out 5-6 days a week pretty regularly with my buddy at Gold's Gym. Well...we both had kids and that was the end of that!

I'm a big fan of Creatine...if you dont use it, give it a month and see the difference. I went from 285lb bench to 350lb in about 6 weeks! The only down side to it is you may retain some water weight and look "puffy" at times.

If you want a KILLER shoulder work out give me a PM!

>>>Doing about 1/2 of the cardio stuff I should be doing. <<<

I'm the opposite, I'd like to lift more but my pathetic addiction to cardio takes all my time. I get in about 30 miles a week running, probably closer to 40 during the Summer.
A bunch of guys I work with are as hard core about lifting as I am running, they hate running or swimming etc. I tell em', yeah, you can kick my rear but I can get away pretty fast!!!

I'm also a big fan of creatine! Good stuff, always nice to get another rep or 2 in and the pump you get. I agree you retain a little water weight but it makes you look that much bigger! I seem to get real dehydrated when using it and I find myself at the fountain after every set.

Hey Kyle! I don`t have to lift weights! My stomach is just covered with ripples! Specially when I sit down. This job is turning to more time behind the desk all the time cuz of the retirement of our secretary and deputy surveyor last year. Been thinkin` of going to the pool for a little exercise, but hate the chlorine up the nose thing. Sure miss my old fresh water swimming hole on the lil` N. Santiam! Ff

Kyle I'm impressed...but short armed guys have an advantage. When I was at my lifting peak I could press 315 as a max. I did hold a highschool record for squats with 505...knee surgery isn't any fun either.

Sure, I lift. Can't all you tell. My wife does the laundry on my stomach
Actually, I always did lift, until my kid was born. finding the time has gotten tough, but I am starting to get back into it. I've found since about the late 30's, keeping muscle tone has been much tougher. funny how it works that way. Back to the gym I need to go!

Been lifting weights off and on most of my life. At one point I was squatting about 365 lbs and benching 260 lbs.

I am not a large man. 5' 6" tall and weigh 160 lbs. I know what you mean about the heavy weight. I like to lift until I can hardly move my arms. Lighter weight and more repetitions just doesn't give me the same burn that I desire.

I have started doing some serious lifting recently to get into shape for wakeboarding this summer. I don't take any supplements other than some amino acids. I eat like a pig however and meat and potatoes tops the list.

If you want to stay young then you need to exercise regularly. I am forty but I feel like I am in my twenties and I attribute that to keeping the body active over the years.

I life my knife, fork and spoon as much as possible. I lift my butt out of the chair quite often too. I do several reps and evening with the remote. On the weekend I rep 4 to 10 oz six feet out from my body. Then I await what pulls back against the 4 to 10 oz. Suddenly it becomes 10 to 50 pounds depending on the season. I then get my cardio exercise for the day during the fight. Of course my fishing partner does the power swoop, net and raise into the boat. You should see his washboard.

All kidding aside I lifted until 9 years ago and gave it up as it was taking away times that I could spend with the kids. 25 lbs overweight vs kids. I"ll take the kids thanks.

Cardio, spinning for me. I lift but only for reps and concentrate on the back and the arms for bow shooting.

I did when I was in high school (two years ago) a lot...I took weight training two times a day in fact. I was 5'6" and I weighed 178lbs, and my bench was up to 250lbs, and I also set a record for my weight class by squatting 430lbs. I never really did power cleans very much, so that max was pretty low. Now I just don't really have the time to lift, but me and my dad do cardio twice a week.

I put the boat in the garage 4 months ago and am getting ready for the Emerald Cup Bodybuilding Championships. It will be my first show in 16 years! I won a few local and regional shows along with some power lifiting contests in the 1980's and early 1990's. In 1989, at the North American Powerlifting Championships, in Idaho, I Squatted 700, Benched 405 and deadlifted 630. Trying not to hurt myself with 10 weeks to go! My wife and I just got back from California. We trained at the Golds Gym in Venice and watched the Pro Ironman BB Show in Pasadena. There be monsters there! Got my picture taken with Bill Kazmier and the current Mr. Olympia, Ron Coleman.

I lifted for a few years... used creatine for about 3 months and saw a big boost in energy while lifting as well as limits going up. However this wreaked havoc on my running - my legs would cramp up after a mile or so tigher than a snare drum. Noticed this did not happend after I quit using creatine. I ate like a horse when I was using it and lifting.

That was a few years ago though. Built up a small set of free weights though that I use at home a few times a week. Not the same as the gym but it helps.

How do people like their Bowflex machines?

Greenbutt..... look no further than pulling 48"transfer tape off of a 53 ft semi trailer 8 ft off the ground on a wooden ladder. You will have mastered your balance as well as getting great lat, fore arm, back and leg work. And if your really crafty you can learn the art of Xacto knife handling in your teeth all at the same time. 12 hrs of this and you wont need to lift anything else. Actually, I too lifted for a while one time in my life...... MegaMass milkshakes, Tuna right from the can.... it's all but a faint memory....if I need lifting now I just go out the back forty and cut firewood.

I bought my bowflex as my christmas present. I love it. I lifted in College while playing football and did some competitive Powerlifting.

I like the Bowflex because it is quick, I get a good pump and it is in my house so I don't have to deal with the gym. The only thing I miss about the gym is the eye candy.

If you can afford it I would get one. I have no excuses now. Plus the extra lifting I can yank the springer from the damn seals. I lost 3 to seals last year. The wife likes the muscle too.

Overweight and out of shape!

Anything like weight lifting, music etc. sure can take up a lot of time. Seems like you have to sacrifice everything else when you lift weights or excercise.

I finally quit studying music because I didn't have time to fish or anything else. But it hurts being out of shape and overweight.

HELP ! :depressed:

Before I pinched my back, I worked my ace off every day. My bench was better then most my size, dead lift I was an animal at along with power clings, squats I kept pushing myself, being only 170lbs at the time, I was doing 405 with good depth...But, soon as I stopped lifting, I went from 175 to 158lbs..At least I can still do pull ups and dips like crazy  Dips are fun and easy, the first two or three times there very hard, but after like the 5th day, your pumping them out with ease.

I outta go sign up to 24hr and slowly try to get my squats back up.
anyone know how much it is per month?

Anyone ever try a boxing gym? Usually cheaper than a weight gym, plus it rips your body, gets in your cardio, and you feel compelled to workout the whole time (instead of stand around.) To much standing around for me at the weight gyms....boring, repetitious, meaningless exercises. Maybe I just never had cool lifting partners.
