Yes, tournaments are a big hassle, and one that I've never wanted to get involved with at all. We looked into a salmon one, once... Huh uhhhhh! Says my lawyer! Not unless you want to pay big bucks!

I'm so sorry, but Tanner is right. Ifish cannot hold a bass tourney at this point.

Thanks,
Jen

Default Willy Tournament Dilema

After discussing this coming weekend's ifish tournament with a friend of mine who has run several tournaments back east and in the midwest I am getting nervous.

The first thing he asked me is "Who is purchasing and carrying the liability insurance for this tournament? I would hate to see you or ifish get sued if someone damages their boat or gets injured"
Hmmm, I never thought about that. Then he said, "What about a marine board permit for the tournament"

Well, I decided to call the marine board enforcement department and here is what I found out. If the tournament is more than 25 boats we need a permit. We're safe there because we have less than 25 boats signed up.

I then asked the officer about requirements for liability insurance. He said there are none but they highly recommend that the sponsoring party or the person in charge of the tournament either insures themselves for any possible liability or has an attorney draft up a disclaimer of liability and has each participant sign one.

Unfortunately, I cannot afford to pay an attorney for this and I don't think that is a burden that we should put on Jenny or ifish.

So everyone save your ten bucks. My part in putting together this tournament is officially terminated.

I am going bass fishing with a friend of mine on the upper Willamette on Saturday September 20th. We are gonna be launching at Hebb Park at 7:00 A.M. We are probably gonna bring a BBQ and have some eats around 2 or 3:00 P.M. If anyone wants to join us out on the river or at Hebb Park for some grub we'll see ya there. Just look for two big guys in a 17' Ranger with lots of glitter on it.

Sorry, It is sad that our society has become so litigious that we even have to worry about putting on an event like this.

Thanks for your understanding

Tanner
