Default good day for son

My son took his pontoon boat up off the Willamette on Friday and fished the back water lake above Clackamette Park. He caught a big smallmouth over 3 lbs. and a smaller one around t lbs. plus lots of dinks.

He said the big one really got the boat moving. I would get one of those but I don't swim well and am getting older. But everytime he goes, he has so much fun, he makes me feel like buying one. I still don't know about one for steelhead or salmon. That might really be a trip.

We took my sons friend Kyle down to the Nehelam last year and he hooked this Chinook while on his Pontoon boat. Jordan and I were in our Jon boat watching him fight this fish. I have never laughed ( WE ) so hard in all my life. It was the funniest thing you have ever seen. There was nothing he could do but get pulled around this hole like he had a trolling motor on the back of it. Everyone in the hole was laughing. In the end he lost the fish but the applause he received made it all worth while. It's amazing what you see when you don't have your Camcorder.

My son and I have fished out of pontoons for a few years now, smallies salmon, steelies. We have more funny stories than I can remember. These boats are GREAT for kids. It really gives them some independence. I also have watched my son get pulled around by steelhead, with fish jumping and the whole nine yards.

My son is now 8. Watching him fish is one of the greatest things I have ever experienced. Watching his skills improve and seeing him enjoy it more and more is a great thrill.

This last summer on a trout fishing trip in the high Cascades, he rowed the boat all weekend. It was a little tuff at first for him, but with a little coaching he was doing great. Now he want's to row all the time. I can't wait untill he can row his old man down the river in our drift boat!!

Here's to many more years of enjoying more time with our kid's.

I still remember the days fishing club tourneys with my son and hunting with him. I haven't picked up a rifle or shotgun since he left for the service and is now in Ohio. He used to practice pitchin and flippin in the back yard so that he could keep up with dad...and he did just that. Great memorys...great memorys. And when he moves back out west there will be more. I have a photo alblum of just fishin/hunting trips with the kids and over all the rods and reels thats what he wants the most.

Hey Rebell, My 15 year old will row us all over the place. When do we get to go?

The first time I took my son oversize fishing he was????? 8ish. He begged me for weeks to take him. I told him if he hooked a oversize he would have to fight it himself with no help. Well he did and when mom saw the bruses on the inside of his legs and...... she just about killed me. I slept on the couch for a week.

Wow David, oversize sturgeon at 8, Yeah I can imagine you caught *** from the wife. But I am willing to bet that the smile on your son's face was worth it.

I've been looking all over for the pictures of him fighting the fish. At first he would get on his knees and rest the rod against the boat but that didn't last for very long. He would get right back up and start fighting the fish again. Please note that we were drifting with the fish. The only bad memory of that trip is when we released the fish it sank down into the water tail first. I don't think we've been oversize fishing since.
