Default Wilson Report

Worked the Wilson pretty hard yesterday from 8am until about 3pm. Fished about 5 or 6 holes between Jordan Creek and Elk Creek but only saw one spawned out fish. Water was VERY low and VERY clear. Threw everything I had at them. Jig and Bobber, Spinners, Corkies, Pink Worms. Not so much as a nibble.
Anybody have thoughts on how to keep ice out of the eyelets on a cold morning? How about ice off braided line in general? I spent half my morning either picking ice out of my eyelets or blowing on my spool to melt all of the ice so I could cast.

I wonder if WD-40 on the guides might help prevent ice build up. I had the same problem yesterday too. Man it was cold in the AM. As for the ice on braid line, I'm not sure. Maybe a shot of PAM?? Hope someone else has some proven solutions. I'd like to know also. TB

Ditto. Ran into DejaWho75 out there, maybe he had better luck.

Dunk your rod in the water for about 10 seconds when the ice in the eyes starts to interfere with your casting and melt it off, far easier than picking it out. Chapstick on the first 100 feet of line helps with the line freeze issue. Helps float the line as well.

Its my understanding that any petroleum based product will work. Ive heard of people using vaseline, wd-40, chapstick with good results. I have always dunked my rod like UG says. One thing I have done is used fly float on my braid and you dont want to do more than the first 8 feet because that crap gets down on the other line on your reel and then it will not come off the reel like it is supposed to.

I didn't fair to well either on the Wilson. I fished hard from 9am til 4pm. Water is way low, way clear. Didn't see any fish rolling. Was sure a dam cold day. Thought after the sun came out the warm air might stir a bite. We need rain.
nice meeting you out there Tommy

Good luck to you all!

btw, Tommy. That was me with DejaWho. Sorry I was so preoccupied with a tie up to introduce myself. I'm sure I'll see you again out there. Deja and I fished together most of the day so I'm pretty sure his report would be the same.

Do petroleum based products hurt braided line in any way? I had heard about using vaseline before but was worried that it might damage/degrade the line.
