Default Ten Mile Lake Fishing?

I'm taking the family down to Ten Mile Lake this weekend and staying with some (nonfishing) friends at their cabin on the lake. The guy says he has a little fishing boat at the cabin. He is picking me up in his ski boat at the County park in Lakeside and says we have to go thru the canal(?) to get to his cabin.

I obviously would like to do some fishing along with my kids. What's the best thing to do to get the kids some fish?? I am not a big bass fisherman but do have a little gear and a lot of worms. How about Catfishing?? trolling for trout??

Any and all help greatly appreciated.

Also I heard something about 10 Mile Creek having Salmon & Steelhead. Are they running yet???

I posted this on the Community board also

Thanks,

Bob

No salmon and steelhead are in the creek at this time of year, infact, the creek is most likely not even flowing freely into the ocean. It usually washes out into the ocean in November, after the rains. Right now, it is just a part of the lake, with lots of weed, warm water, and slime. Some people fish the breek for bass this time of year.

You should be able to get some crappie to hit jigs, along with bass. I used to use artifical worms and grubs, but live bait will definately work. I recomend taking a boat into an arm of the lake, and fishing right where the weeds end, and it transitions into deeper water. Yes you can troll for trout, but there are a lot of weeds in spots, and a lot of skiers. Best bets are early in the morning.
Have fun, catch fish!

The canal is the link between North Tenmile and South Tenmile.

The easiest bite going right now is for perch, and nightcrawlers are perfect for those. You should be able to get bites near any boat dock, especially bigger ones. Just keep the worm down there near the bottom and you'll pick them up.
