Re: Kwiks sportin new Gami's (pic)
Ive never had any confidence in that set up. The Kwikfish swims head down/Tail up. That belly hook seems to hang well below the plug body. At least thats the perception I got when I tried it out over the last couple years. If I go to single hooks I usually use a double split ring to a siwash on the belly as it seems to keep closer to the body and almost extends to the tail. It may quite possibly work...let me know how it does for ya.

Re: Kwiks sportin new Gami's (pic)
I have a friend that uses that same set up on his kwickfish for salmon except for one thing. He extends the belly hook back with a 4 bead chain and an owner hook like you have it but he leaves the bach hook completely off. I don't know about springers but I have seen him consistantly hook steelhead with that set-up with a K-12 kwickfish.

Re: Kwiks sportin new Gami's (pic)
Hey, when you say you used a "small anvil", I am getting this picture in my mind that I am sure has nothing to do with the real thing. I just destroyed a kwikfish trying to open the eyes using pliers, what exactly is a "small anvil" and how did you use it to open the eyes of your kwikfish?
Thanks!
Jay

Cut the factory hook off with a pair of side cutters and then attach the 4 bead chain with a heavy duty split ring, it's a lot easier and works just as well

Jay I posted this on the other thread where you mentioned ruining one of your brand new Kwiks:

Re: Kwiks sportin new Gami's (pic)
Nice picture Time Off! I'm going to switch the hooks on my Kwiks this season to the Gami 510s as well. I like using K14s so I'm going to use the 3/0 hooks. Was thinking of going with barrel swivel only on both belly and tail hooks. Good luck and let us know how you do.

That looks like it may work better than the stock setup. Thanks for the post

Re: Kwiks sportin new Gami's (pics added)
There are a lot of successful ways to modify the hook set-ups on Kwikfish. I have several different set-ups I use, depending on the size of the Kwikie and the speed of the water I'm fishing. It's important to field test your modifications to see what the hooks are doing in verious speeds of water ... run them along side your boat so you can watch what's going on. I think some of us might be surprised to see where their hooks are spending most of their time on a wiggling Kwikie.

Re: Kwiks sportin new Gami's (pics added)
I'd second what Pete said. Hard to tell from the picture but I'd want to make sure that the belly hook can't get caught up either in the eye hook, the swivel or around the body of the lure itself. Looks great though!

Thanks for the pics...
I really like your 'tapered punch & socket' technique. Over the years there's been lots of different suggestions for how to open the eyelet (I simply use a fine tapered chisel) but I think your method is totally new - thanks!

Re: Kwiks sportin new Gami's (pics added)
I agree with garyk!
I have always used pliers to open up my eyelets. I have broken a few if you are not careful. I am going to use your method next time.
The single hooks work great!!! I have used that method and seldom ever lost a springer once it bit down.
