Default Steering mechanism\\ TR-1

I was wondering if anyone has purchased the steering mechanism that I ahd seen at the sportsman show? For only $500. Seems like a pretty good deal to get out of the rain while trolling. I would prefer the Auto pilot, Just can't come up with the bucks since I'm trying to buy a camper for the truck this year.Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Also, if you contactTR-1 they might be able to hook you up with the throttle controller. Good luck...TB

Troutdale to Sherwood is a nice drive. I live in Aurora and I can get to Troutdale in about 45 minutes.

Even though it's an older model, you can see how you like it and maybe upgrade as the budget allows. It may also be possible to add options to this unit. The TR-1 guys could tell ya...

Let me know what happens.

Good Luck

Chances are pretty good I could get a couple of parts... if asked nicely, and I'm actually in town.

I was at the show last night and didnt see anybody but TR1 there. Was there another system that had steering for the trolling motor?

I need something to run the trolling motor on my offshore bracket.

Ideally it would have shift, throttle and steering. The rest of that stuff would be nice, but I cant justify that kind of money for something that will do cloverleafs and figure 8's

I bought an electro-mechanical system for rotary helm at boat show called Intellisteer. It is made by a Canadian company that has been making boat parts a long time and has 2 year warranty. It was about $350(retails for about $500). You replace standard rotary helm with electo-mechanical helm. You can then steer boat 25' away from steering wheel using this device. I tried it here at home and will be testing it hopefully tomorrow on the water. I wanted to be able to keep fishing and assisting with landing fish without having to go to front of boat when in close quarters with other fishermen/women.
They make 3 different systems:
1. For rotary helm
2. Hyd steer. helm
3. Unit that attaches to kicker motor

I looked at the Intellisteer system at the Seattle boat show. It looked very promising for the price. You would still need to add a throttle control if you needed to operate it remotely. I think they had a website. If you have problems finding them PM me and I will find the info I picked up at the show.

You know, a little steering system with no autopilot sounds nice, but... When you try to steer the boat like that you are constantly over or under correcting and going back and forth, back and forth, and getting a very tired thumb. You are actually better off to just steer with a tiller, as it's easier in the long run. You still don't get throttle control either. But when it all comes down to it you are still not freeing up a hand to bait or fish with, actually you will spend more time steering than not. If you can't afford it that's one thing, but then no one out there is going to convince me you can spend 30-40k, or more, on a boat, but can't afford to rig it with the very best. Completely hands free fishing is the key, let me know when you get tired of the steering system, I take them off all the time...

In order to have an Autopilot, one must first have a steering device to hook it to Grass-Hopper!

My wife told me NO you cant afford it, I dont think it is just the couple thousand for the TR1 she was talking about Its the alimony and child support that would be real expense.

I suppose I could run the motor while standing on the offshore bracket.

Guess we know who wears the pants in that house. We also know who carries the purse too, which happens to be a storage place for one's manhood.

I've been talking with Ken on the older TR-1 . I would realy prefer the new one but like I said. I'm also trying to get a camper for the truck. So if there are options for the Tr-1. I will definitley be looking into this more seriously. I like the throttle option. Heck! I'm just getting excited about being able to walk around the boat without having to sit on my doghouse all day.

Hello Ifisher's,

Older TR-1's are great, though be sure to check with TR-1 to see if they still service/support that vintage.

I can be reached on my cell anytime.

Seems somebody has tampered with my yahoo account? hmmmm
