Default Crawfish is the best bait ever

I was just fishing in Battle Ground the other day, and happenned to grab a crawfish. I was told to use it as bait. When I did, I couldnt keep the fish off! Anyways, besides trapping craws every trip for the meat, is there a substitute? Store bought? Raw shrimp? Any insight would be great.

Nothing beats fresh, especially 30 seconds dead fresh. When I was a kid, I'd catch crawdads as I fished to use for bait, and I couldn't keep the fish off of them. Unfortunately, right out of the water is not always practical.

I found some crawfish at the market. They're from LW. I can use these for a while, but what can I use for the meat afterward? Is there a freeze-dried kind or something?
