Monster steelhead
I had a 15 year old kid fish with me the other day. He had never caught a steelhead or anything over 18 inches. He managed to land 6, and the 5th one was this.
Measured 38 1/2 length and 22 1/2 girth. I guess it to be about 23 pounds. I told him at the end of the day life was all downhill now.
PS: Before people get ****ed about native photo's, please note the fish was only taken from the water for seconds. Also note my native revival pullover with water proof sleaves and cuffs to keep you dry while holding the nate in the water to revive.

Re: Monster steelhead
What a beauty! You were right in telling him it's all downhill now. That's going to be tough to beat.
I never worry about nates when I see them pictured like that. You can plainly see the fish isn't being mishandled. Good job!
PS, your steelhead cure has been knocking em dead for me this year.

Re: Monster steelhead
Talk about going down hill. What Scott failed to mention is that the kid caught an 18lb hen earlier in the day.
I don't think that I have even caught two 18+ pound fish in one day.

Nice fish. Congrats. Good year for Big-uns. Caught a 38" buck last Sunday. My biggest steelhead and I am a lot older than your client. Like you said it is all downhill...

Re: Monster steelhead
So I'm sure this isn't the right thread, but I don't really care.
Call it a complaint, concern, bi**h, gripe or whatever but here goes.
Both Grant and Scott's fish are SO incredible! Nice job guys. Sure enough they were natives that OMG were out of the water, and nobody starts flamin' them. Call it 'street cred' or respect of some kind. With ALL OF MY HEART I'm sure those fish were handled with 'purple kid gloves' and properly released. If this is how Scott and Grant feed their families, do you think they would do something so stupid as to jeapordize this? (Bonzi,Rasheed, Damon, Ruben... - don't answer that) I hope most on this board share the same respect for our rare and precious resources as stewards for our sport.
But my gripe is this - I think it was Birdhunter who recently posts a comparable photo of a native out of the water for a quick photo and folks start chuckin' boots at this guy.
So my points are this:
1. Be consistent
2. Cut just a little slack
3. Be kind and perhaps privately email a concern
I enjoy this board. I probably spend entirely too much time here, but I don't post much because the flamers come out of the woodwork with the slightest transgression.
Frankly I think we've lost many great contributors because 'it's just not worth it.'
Ok, I'm done. I could further articulate my point, but you get it!
Thanks,
Joby Easton

Re: Monster steelhead
Thanks for sharing the picture. And for the lesson on proper catch and release.
It is my firm belief that almost all fishermen will gladly catch and carefully release these awesome native steelhead once educated on the topic. The problem is that many fishermen just don't know and haven't been "enlightened". Posts like this are very educational. Keep it up.
