Default C.J.Strike

I took my Brother and his 3 kids, and my daughter out the other evening. We tried to hook a sturgeon (Bro and his kids have never seen one), but he missed the one bit we got.

In the late evening we started bass fishing. we caught a bunch of fish in the last 2 hours of light, and some were pretty nice. My daughter got one about 16". I was fishing topwater, which is a good way to catch a bunch of small bass. Pretty much anything worked, asn long as it was tight to shore. Kids were fishing rubber grubs, and plastics. At least one person was pitching a crankbait (I can't remember who). It was kinda crazy  . Pretty much always a fish on one line or more.

Definitely get out and fish Strike, just do it in the evening and morning. When it's 113 in the canyon, the fish are deep and sluggish. We went through 4 beers 12 sodas and 12 bottled waters. Bring your own shade!

Joe,....so what you're saying is that your brother is still a.....sturgeon virgin. Tough brake considering how good you've been doing prior to that trip. Oh well, there'll be other days and more opportunities.

Spent 17 hours (5 am to 10 pm) on Strike Saturday getting ready for a tournament. Caught tons of good fish- topwaters in morning and evening- drop shot duing the day.

You can catch good fish on topwaters- look for bass busting minnows on the surface. Last week my partner caught a 4.2#- and this weekend we caught 2 that would go 3#- all on topwaters. One killer technique is to follow up missed strikes on a hardbait with a soft jerkbait like a Zoom super fluke. TONS OF FUN to watch a 3# bass explode on a topwater!!!

Josh.

Born to Fish-
I saw in your profile you work in wildland fire. I worked for the Shoshone District BLM for six years during college (1994-2000)- all on heavy engine crews- I was an IC qualified engine boss when I left. Every year when it gets hot, I start to miss it. We probably know a lot of the same people- fire is a small world.

Take care,
Josh Wilson.

Josh, you're right, the wildland fire community is a small one. Never ceases to amaze me who I'll run into when I go out on fire assignments, no matter where it is and whatever the agency. Great community of highly dedicated professionals. When I'm not doing my regular job at NIFC, I've been a Logistics Chief on a team for many years and take great pleasure from being able to take care of these folks in any way I can.

overfitty,
Take I-84 from Farewell Bend past Boise to Mountain Home (about 110 miles, then take hiway 51 to Loveridge Bridge (you can put in there), or hiway 67 to Grandview and follow the signs to the dam (really good boat launch).

Mojo...thank you, kind sir, for those directions. I'll be spending a week at Farewell Bend in August, and this should be a great day trip for me. Thanks again!
