Contact Bait Of Eggs. Roy does a fine job of conducting rod building classes for a nominal fee.

Check with Gary Waterhouse @ Great American Tackle, in Clackamas. He was the one who set me up in a class at his store in Clackamas. I now build all my rods. I Mostly build GLoomis rods from blanks you can get up at Angelers workshop in Woodland.

Good luck finding out about a class.

Rodbuilding is actually pretty easy. While I'm sure it would be more effective to sit with somebody who knows what they're doing, there are great books and free video instruction on the internet. One thing you can do for practice is strip an old, unwanted rod of some guides and re-wrap those 'till you get the hang of it. If you don't find a class, shoot me a PM and I can turn you on to some resources that really helped me out.

A good recourse is rodbuilding.org There is a ton of recources there through the members. Any questions you asked will be answered promptly.

As has been said, there are a lot of good books and videos out on rod building. There are a ton of techniques to the trade. It is easy to build a rod once you get the hang of it, however learning how rods are maunufactured, understanding the differant materials, and learning about the components and there makeup will enlighten you on many aspects of rod building. You will also learn what a true custom rod is all about. You will appreciate the smallest details of craftmanship and work that go into a hand made rod.

An example is understanding why a $300.00 rod breaks or why about 80% of rod damage occurs while transporting a rod in a truck or boat. I think you folks interested in it will enjoy the learning procees.

I have thought about putting a class together myself for people that are interested.

Give Chris Stewart at Stewart's Fly Shop in Wood Village a call. He will be at the Sprotsman's Show the next couple of days too.
