Default Duck Clubs?

Was wondering if there are any duck clubs looking for new members. I moved from Oregon to the Kent, WA area and am now without a consistent in-state duck hunting resource. I have hunted and fished my entire life. I've got a 7-year old lab who hated me this year for mostly depriving him of his chief pleasure (well, that and pheasant hunting, but that's a different story). Please don't make me post sad pictures of him...

If there are any opportunities out there, I'd appreciate hearing about them and having the opportunity to see if I would fit in...

Thanks!
Jay

Hello Jay,

I have a duck club that a friend and I run He owns the land and I guide off of it.WE have been talking about starting an acctual hunting club for next year instead of charging by the weekend. We are located in northwest Washington Co. in oregon west of Hillsboro. We have had the most luck and action out of any club in the area. there was not a day that we didnt go home with our limit. Oh we have goose hunting available.

If this sounds interesting to any one let me know.

Sounds like a good deal... just a little too far from Kent, WA though... :depressed:

However, if you don't mind, I might like to put my brother or Dad in touch with you. They live real close to that area and are looking for a new club to join. I'll PM you for info...

Yeah theres not to many duck clubs out in the hillsboro area that shoot very well anymore. I hunted on one for about 5 years and my dad hunted on it for almost 20 and they never had a season like this guy is talking about, and this place was in the prime area! 90% pintails was about all these places see anymore.

Threemuch...Dukaddict

Wanna know what I think? OK...Dukaddict, you are way to young to be joining a duck club. Dude, we are both to young to sit around and have our waterfowling needs catered to. Hunting is about hunting...working hard to get birds...and when it pays off, having it all be worthwhile.

Threemuch...same to you man...having only hunted for a season or so you have got to experience hunting for what it is...hunting.

Everybody I know that has ever been part of a club tells the same story. And to be honest it is a sad one. Those clubs are not hunting but socializing (which is ok, don't get me wrong), it's just not for guys like us Dukaddict...and they haven't been killing many ducks lately either.

I had one of the best seasons ever this year. We went home with over 300 ducks in about 30 hunts...you do the math. Dukaddict... you have only known me a couple of months...I gaurentee that there are plenty of good hunts to be had in the future, for free, on public land.

When we are old and grey, and can't pack 14 dozen decoys into the feild like we can now, that's when we can think about sitting around in a heated blind looking at decoys that have been sitting around all season, weathered and half of them upside down, listening for somebody to yell out "take 'em", standing up and pulling the trigger. Anybody can do that...anybody can be a trigger. It takes a lot of hard work to be a true "waterfowler" and the payoff is tenfold.

to hunting hard and going home draggin' ass tired, only to get up early and do it the next day.

Jon-

Theres only 1 reason for me to want to join a duck club or goose club. When Sauvies Is not open and I dont have a boat to use for Lewis and Clark, other then that its a waste of money that I do not have.

I would much rather hunt LC then any other place whether its the prime duck club on SI or its Mudlake 1,2,or 3... You can argue with me, but thats what I believe.

And if I were to be in a duck club, it would have to be the right set up... Ive seen to many of them where 1 duck flys through and every blind starts blasting and it goes into a pile and everyone splits them up at the end... not my type of hunting.

Jon-

That's pretty good stuff. I agree, a bird you worked hard to get is more meaningful than a bird that came easy.

However, I like the social aspect of a club, especially the right kind of club. And access to good hunting isn't a bad thing.

I also had my best season this year. My first few goose hunts, my first limits of ducks, my first hunt out on Sauvie. I didn't kill anything like 300 ducks, but maybe 60 or 70 so in the 20 hunts I made over the season. Something like half limits. But it's never been about scores for me. Or the kill. That goes for hunting and fishing.

For me it's more about the overall experience, and for me that means good friends having good times. And I will continue to do that in or outside of a club. KB
