Default ok I quit copenhagen how do I quit this mint snuff

Hi, After reading the other post of people quitting. I jumped on the band wagon after 28 years. Going on my 6th week. Started one week with the patch. Then hit a week moment a week after that and stopped at the store and picked up mint snuff 100% tobbaco and sugar free. Keeps me from putting the whole fridge in my mouth. I have had a couple of week moments and just about drove to the store but resisted. I was wondering how everone was doing and how am I supposed to quit this mint snuff. could be worse tho.

I haven't tried to quit yet, but am watching this post to see what is working. I plan on quitting this summer.

Congrats are in order for you. Nothing wrong with the mint snuff is there.

Seabass.

As I sit here and read this thread with a mouth full of sunflower seeds, all I can say is, I quit on 1/1/92 and still eat sunflower seeds nearly every day.

Seeds are cheaper and healthier than copenhagen.

Its the oral fixation that is hard to get over, I find myself putting the shells between my cheek and gum, sucking on the shells for quite a while when the seeds are gone.

I suppose I should clear this up the mint snuff is not mint flavored tobbaco but mint flavored mint leaves with no tobbaco. Even tho I have been chewing it I can tell my gums are getting better. I have package of spitz dill pickle flavored sunflower seeds sitting here at work and have been working on them intermitantly.

I can't relate to quitting chew but I can to smoking. I think people are done with the chemical addiction within a few days. Its the "habit" that is the hardest to get over. All the times you put in a chew--after eating, getting in the car, out of the car, right before bed.....

You can do it. Just don't give in. Refuse to replace a chew with something else when the urge hits. After awhile, you'll realize that you have gone for a day (or hour, half day etc.) without thinking about it and pretty soon you've won the battle.

Not sure about the mint snuff. I would go slow until you are sure you are done with the Cope. I quit in Feb 92 when I averaged a can every other day. Up until about a year ago I used to wake up in the middle of the night from a dream that I had taken a dip again. Then it just stopped. pwerful stuff. Take a look at this photo if you get the urge to start up again. http://whyquit.com/whyquit/A_Gruen.html

Good luck and stick with it.

Wow, thanks for the link. I added it to my "favorites?" and will use it as a reminder. Whenever I see my doctor he starts the conversation with "what do I have to do to make you quit chewing?" My dad is a MD and his conversations with me always lead to some of the cases that he worked on. I am going to quit chewing the first day that school gets out, I don't need to get tunnel vision in front of my class.

Just spent 30 minutes looking and reading that site. Thanks for sharing it. I am now 3 months and 7 days with only 1 single dip after about 25 years. I can't see myself ever picking it up again!!! That site should be manditory reading for all boys every year starting about 7th grade till graduation. Pretty convincing stuff If you chew and can spend the next 15-30 minutes looking and reading that site, you to will give it up

I quit on Feb 1st. I was worried the most about the HABIT, not the addiction. I ordered THIS a couple days before my quit date to help with the physical habit of having something in my lip. Web site says priority shipping. As I said, I quit on the first of Feb. Didn't get the Kikit until the 5th. I started by taking Wellbutrin for 2 weeks prior to my quit date and will continue for a couple months. I'm using the patch for the nicotine and after 5 days find I don't need the fake stuff for the full lip habit.

I started chewing when I was ten, and started using Copehagen when I started high school. Been using Cope for about 35 years now. The past 15-20 years I used a can every three days and had a dip in my lip every waking moment of the day I had tried to quit a couple times before but was never serious about it. Now that I'm serious about it, I find it fairly easy. I get flash cravings at the trigger times - When I'm done eating, first cup of coffee in the morning, and about 10-15 other specific triggers. I crave it for a few seconds and then move on. Going to start cutting down on the patch use as I forgot to put one on yesterday after my shower and didn't notice anything unusual so will go to the next step down a week early.

As far quitting whatever it is that you're using as a substitute, just quit. So far thats whats working for me

King- Thank you for the link. I just spent about almost an hour on it and its links, and I'm finally getting motivated. I didn't know that nicotene actually caused depression. I thought I was using it to avoid depression (one of my many excuses). I have also felt myself getting "dumber" over the years, and now I know why (nicotene stops new brain cell growth and replacement). I also re-affirmed what I thought about the gum. I have used the gum the last 3 or 4 times I tried to quit, and it was just exchanging addictions (or the form of the addiction). Lots to think about...

Quitting chew is easy...........

I have done it 30 or 40 times...........

Like you guys above, I started at a young age and have quit for up to three years before and have a week moment out hunting or fishing with friends who still chew and think I can have just one and the next thing you know you buy just one can for the ride home and your trying to quit again. A vicious circle.
