Got up and left Vancouver at 3am this morning. Couldn't talk anyone into going as all had other plans. Got to Philomath for breakfast about 5am so had to wait fot the place to open. Arrived at the parking lot at The Maples to find 2 cars already there and thought to myself 140 mile drive for nothing. They must have been shuttle cars for db as there was no one at my beloved slot that I have fished at for over 40 years. Had to wait for full light as it is hard to maneuver out to the slot unless you can see the bottom. I made my first cast of about 15 feet and as the slinky hit the bottom a fish grabbed the birdie and started tugging. They usually go upstream as downstream is 160 yds of whitewater. Finnally got it over to the bank and landed a nice 9lb Hen(hatchery) with clipped dorsal and max both. 15 min later another grabbed it and this time was a small wild Hen about 6lbs. A driftboat came by then and banged up the rocks on the ways thru. 10 minutes after they went down I had a fish grab and run down thru the white water with the line hanging up on a rock that wouldn't come loose so had to go around thru the brush and wade out to cut the line as the fish was exhausted. Another wild fish, this time about 15lbs, prob headed to 5 rivers. changed the reel on my pole because of line rubs on the rock and tied another rainbow birdie and green yarn. Second cast thru the slot and Fish-on again. Another hatchery Hen about the same as the first one, so decided to drive home to make the super bowl party since it is at my house. An hour or so and 4 fish on with 2 keepers. Maybe next week, Skrimmy will go with me.

A long ways to go but with the results here behind the house my grandfather built, it is always fun and brings back many memories of my Dad, my Uncle and My Grandfather catching fish in the same slot over a period of 75 years.
