Default Razors around Newport???

I have dug razors in Washington and Astoria, but never around Newport. Are there any down that far?

I would greatly appreciate a PM with some starting points if they can be found down south.

I can't help you with locations, although the clams are there, but there's a closure still in effect for the Newport/Waldport area.

Check out this web site for details. For the very latest, you can call the number and talk to Deb Cannon. She'll know when the next batch of tests are due. I would imagine with the low tides coming up it will be done over this weekend or early in the week.

There's been so many closures on Razor clams that I haven't touched one in probablly 3 years.
However when and if they open up (I guess we may have to wait till summer till it's safe) I know some magnificent, I mean epic spots for razor clamming around Newport. I'm talking places where you can get a limit of razors in 10 minutes, and go fishing.
Keep me in mind when the razors are open for harvest.
Cheers,
L

Most of the beaches around Newport have epic numbers of razor clams because they have been off limits for the last couple of years and probably will be for the next couple of years, the dioxin levels got pretty low last summer but not low enough to open it up again for harvest, stick to the clatsop county beaches.

Bummer.
:depressed:

I don't want to get sick. The web page showed the most recent samples near Newport were close the limit (27ppm)where they will consider oppening the fishery, but the most recent report from Gold Beach was WAY to high (40-47ppm). The decision to open the mid-coast will only be made after both sites are at or below 20ppm

Thanks for the info!

Clatsop folks...you got nuttin to worry about...Biotoxin levels of 3.4ppm!

We were in Yachats this past New Years weekend. On a beach walk we came across many Razor Clam shells, that were very fresh and not bleached out. These shells were quite large about 5" to 7" in length. I can only assume there are Razors there for the taking, pretty interesting.
