Default Tr-1 uses

Others have probably already done this but I thought it was too cool not to post.

The tide was coming in and the boat was swirling around the gator hole. A sea anchor was not going to solve the problem because it was near high tide. I looked at the manual and read how to put the autopilot in reverse. I dropped the anchor and backed down against the rope and tide. The boat heald steady so I was able to have excellent feel of my line without dragging it around. In the first few minutes I caught a couple of shakers off the sarboard side of the boat while my son didn't get a bite off of the port side. I told him to click the control 20 degrees to the starboard side. The boat moved over enough that he started getting his own fish. We moved around a couple more times without pulling anchor and continued to catch gators. The Tr-1 allows me to cover a lot of the hole without pulling the anchor or worrying about the wind. Now for my question... I didn't figure this out the first year and would like to know some other tricks you people use with the Tr-1? Can I fish Bonneville without an anchor? I don't want to anchor up there but want to catch oversized gators.

See=Bass,

Take me with you, I'll show you what it's all about, and how easy it really is. I can park your boat( For Real) as long as I have the thrust(power)

Let's go, Im Off for a week ( Vacation?)

Hey Pete!

Enjoy that vacation! Congratulations on the new venture.

Seabass,

We are a new TR-1 user. Installed a couple of weeks ago. I'll be watching this posting to see the tips other TR-1 IFISHER's have found. I look forward to using it as often as I can.

Keep the hints and tips coming.

Thank you

Peter, we've never met or spoken but I have watched how you have supported the TR-1 Good luck in your new ventures Quite often there are great products, but very poor business manners/owners behind them

I too am a new user (self installed) and am very pleased w/ the ease of intallation and use I used the "reverse" mode this last weekend when the tide quit pushing, worked awesome, even w/out calibrating the compass, yet.

Went out to the lake Sun. to finish up (calibrate the compass) and play w/ some of the other features. I did program the left and right bent arrow buttons to do the standard 45 degree turns. Looked like an easy way to change course w/out having to hold the steer button down until the boat reacts.

One other thing for new users, when using the throttle control be sure that the throttle handle is at idle before using the idle/resume button. The TR-1 idle will only back down as far as the actual throttle handle is set.

Going to use it again this weekend

When the wind is minimal, I can use the TR-1 to hold against the current and not even have to drop anchor when gator fishing. Makes moving to a new hole quick and easy

Spoke with Pete Frederick while he was installing an auto pilot today, he wanted me to mention to Ifish that he is getting his new computer up and running and will reply soon to private messages and that is why there hasn't been any responses or emails answered.

I am disappointed to see the bad owner talk still going on. I still haven't seen where anyone asked Pete why that might have been said. Harsh words are said when tempers flare, you all know that, and we're all adults here. Maybe one should wonder what made that temper flare... or, just not say anything at all about subjects one does not know anything about.

Pete, when are you going to put an end to it? Do you even have any feeling at all for the way it all went down?

Get over it, and let it be about friends, fishing, and kick ass autopilots, if not necessarily in that order for everyone.

And in reference to what started this post, sure you can hold up in a current with no anchor easily. The trick is:

1. get the GPS hooked up to the pilot
2. use the pilot to position the boat where you want to be over the hole, and match current speed with throttle to hold
3. plot a waypoint about a 1/2 mile out in front of the boat (room for error on throttle if you move up) and say GO TO on the GPS
4. press the GPS button on the autopilot

This will make the pilot aim towards a (way)point it can never reach because you've got the throttle low enough it's not making headway. You may have to make fine adjustments to the throttle periodically if too low thrust to steer, but you shouldn't have that problem at Bonneville. You can do this without GPS, but then wind and current will make the boat slide and you will have to use step turns to adjust boat position over hole.

Robert,

Thanks for the tip on using the GPS. That should work great. I have used the TR1 in hoglines without anchoring. I just need to make a few adjustments while fishing. I love the looks I get when I am sitting there without an anchor.

I have a thread started on TR-1 at Sportsman show. In there I also asked how many people would be interested in my starting a Forum on TR-1 uses and applications. Go there and put in your two cents if you want me to do it.
