Default Tune Up help?

I just tried to remove a spark plug from my 351 (Ford) Kodiak, and I can't get a wrench on the plug. Anyone know if there is a special wrench to get the plugs out? The heat risers are in the way. Do I need to bite the bullet and take it in for a tune up? Does anyone know of a Kodiak dealer in the area?

Thanks,
love2fish

its been a while since I looked at how those were set up in a boat but maybe I can help.

I am not sure if your talking about thin metal shields that protect the plug wire boots from heat or a heavy cast piece built onto the exhaust. I am a mechanic and on cars we run into the thin metal shields getting in the way all of the time. generally we can get by with just using a super thin walled spark plug socket and forcing it in there. the porcilin on the plug may break but if your changing the plugs anyway that will be no big deal. if it is a thin metal shield you can also try and bend it a little bit with a screw driver to make room for the socket or remove them completely from the manifolds.

if they are heavy cast and built into the manifold I am sure they have a special tool for it at the boat service center you use and you could most likely order one so that you have it for the next time your going to change your plugs.

I dont know if any of that will help but it may good luck to you.

Thanks for the reply Quasi. It's the cast iron heat exchangers that are in the way. I guess I'll have to find a special wrench or try a thin box end wrench.

Thanks,
