How the heck do they let something like this get away?
1. If this is one of the last PCB containing transformers, why wasn't it monitored more closely, level sensors?
2. Why did the oil get as far as it did, containment?
3. will this unit be decommisioned?
I work in industry and this sort of thing just really makes me angry. We go to great length to prevent issues such as this, and get clobbered when we do. Hopefully the army corps gets yanked up good and short for this.

What a bunch of knuckleheads.

Maintenance Schedules
Daily inspections
Hazardous material containment
Spill response plan(s)
Contingency plan(s)
Spill notification plan(s)

I wonder if there was/is any part of their responsibilities that they didn't fail on.

<font size="2" face="verdana,arial,helvetica">That puts a dumper on sturgeon fishing.
I would like to know, how long it will take to get most of it flushed out?

"The Corps stressed the toxic content in the oil is low — on the order of eight parts per million, a level the Environmental Protection Agency considers non-hazardous, he said."

The Oregonian article stated that the EPA doesn't consider the PCBs to be a problem untill they start reaching 50 parts per million. 2-stroke motors and pee most likely will cause more damage to the environment.

If you don't buy that? Then.....

I think everybody should protest this mess by staying off the Columbia River below Bonneville for a year!
