Default Info and opinions wanted.

For Christmas my family bought me a Uniden Atlantis 250 two way vhf handheld radio. Has anyone used one of these?? Do they have a good range and reception?? Any info would be appreciated. Happy New Year and I hope you find your freezer full. Slayer

In general Uniden makes a decent radio. One of my captains used the 250 for awhile but has replaced it with a Standard Horizon (my personal choice for handhelds). You should get a range of about 5 miles easy, more if line of sight is good. Keep in mind that all (?) handhelds are 5 watt output compared to 25 watt for a mountable unit. Still, I've picked up handheld comms from better than 15 miles when there have been no obstructions.
