Motion Marine Anchor Rest
I am thinking of buying one of these anchor rests to get my anchor out of my boat floor. Do they hold the anchor securly enough for rough water? Here in the central gorge we all know how rough it is when the wind is blowing. Will this keep the anchor from bouncing around?
Thanks
Rick

Re: Motion Marine Anchor Rest
I've owned one for a few years on my sled and love it. the shop that sold me my boat put a v shaped piece of rubber right behind the mm anchor rest and that locks the anchor in. never had a problem with the anchor coming loose in the gorge, b 10, while driving etc. a good buy.

Re: Motion Marine Anchor Rest
I made one just like it the only problem I have is the rope gettin caught on the hooks that the anchor rests in when starting to pull forward to pull the anchor. I do like the design of the big water but hate to spend $200.00 on one.

Re: Motion Marine Anchor Rest
They work great. Mine also has a roller on the front to ease in pulling the anchor. It has a rubber clip to hold the anchor while moving/ trailering. I always put a couple of half-hitches of rope while trailering just to be safe.

Re: Motion Marine Anchor Rest
I just secure my anchore with a bungee. I run the bungee arounf the bow cleat, and each end of the bungee to the welded anchore chain link, used as the break-away. Holds it real nice.

Re: Motion Marine Anchor Rest
I have one that I modified. I'll take a pic of what I did tonight and post it.
Pretty simple, just drilled a hole through the nest near the top/front. I have a long bolt that goes through the nest and through a link on my anchor chain, which I put on when trailering or running really rough water, don't worry about it in normal water conditions.

Re: Motion Marine Anchor Rest
I'll second what The Rogue said. Except, I drilled through the nest and the anchor. I use a pin with a clip on it to keep it in. Works excellent for traveling and negotiating the ride across the river to the fishing grounds. Darn flatlanders don't understand what we gorge rats have to do to fish the fall run!

Re: Motion Marine Anchor Rest
Here is what I did. Drilled through the anchor and mount and then use a cable lock to secure.
Edit: The lock is only for road transport. In the water, the anchor has always stayed secure - even in very rough conditions in the Gorge.

Re: Motion Marine Anchor Rest
I got a roller bracket and cut it down, put another roller on it.Then i mounted it on the bottom and a little forward of the one on there. Sure keeps the rope from chaffing when your pulling the anchor.

Catching Nemo, what do you do with the extra cleats on the bow of your boat?

Those are known as "shear chocks". Placing the anchore rope to the side will allow the boat to "shear" over in the oppisite direction of the rope. It's just a way to fine tune the boats position while on anchore with out having to pull the anchore and try again. Depending on the amount of current and rope length, a boat can easily slide to either side a few boat widths.

Re: Motion Marine Anchor Rest
I had a MM rest added to my new North River a year ago. The rest was mounted with the roller flush to the bow. You couldn't pull the anchor up the roller without scratching the bow. When you mount yours make sure you have adequate clearance between the roller and bow. I moved mine out and the system works great. I also use a rubber snubber in rough water and traveling the paved path.

Re: Motion Marine Anchor Rest
here is a shot of mine
added a chain to tied down the anchor while transporting, plus I wrap a bungee cord around the front of the anchor for good measure, although the rubber cleat that came with the anchor rest really holds the anchor down quite well.
the front roller extends beyond the hull.
