getting a guided trip ???
My Dad and I are getting a guided trip for our B-days. Neither of us have ever done this before. Are there any suggestions of guides and times of the year to book a trip? Would like to try side drifting or egg/bobber. Something I've not tried. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

Re: getting a guided trip ???
Lots of good one's : Ifish Oregon and Washington Guides !
There are others on the board too if you look around a bit
edit: For bobber/egg fishing, that would be next spring of fall for chinook, some of those guys (like Scott and Grant) probably already have dates for next fall that are booking now.
Sidedrifting for steelies is now(winters) through June (summers).

Re: getting a guided trip ???
I've been on a trip with Grant Scheele, he's great!
I hear Scott Amerman is awesome also. Some buddy's of mine have been on trips with Scott and have always caught lots and lots of fish.
I think both Scott and Grant are sidedrifting right now.
I hear David Johnson is awesome also, everytime I see him he always has a boat load of fish.
Winter steelhead sidedrifting is going on now. I think the best trip would be a fall chinook trip. Many, many, big fish.
Good luck.

Re: getting a guided trip ???
you lucky dog. If you would like to stay local you have a lot of good choices and Kevin Emerick of Playing Hook E guide service is one. B run fish are plentiful on the Snake and one of your better choices would be Columbia River Guides Jeff Johanson. Kevin is from Vancouver, Phil Paridis is another local Vancouverite. PM me if you would like to get their numbers. Pay close attention because you will learn many things from a good guide.

Re: getting a guided trip ???
Good guides are a dime a dozen but if you are not carefull you may get a real jerk off. There are plenty of those out there. Having said that, you can't go wrong with Grant Scheele. I know that I will be booking trips with him again. Exceptional fisherman and a great guy. Craig

Without question David Johnson will provide a very enjoyable, educational and productive fishing experience. There may be others. Some I have been with, others I haven't, David is a sure thing.

David Johnson.
Funny, courteous, a gentleman, generous with tips and techniques, and man does he catch fish. We caught fish in slots and holes other guides had just fished hard and left empty handed.
The man is a fish catching machine!

Re: getting a guided trip ???
Only guide I've ever been out with was David Johnson. Excellent trip.

Another vote for Grant Scheele. I think his results speak for themselves, and he is great about sharing knowledge, if you are there to learn as well as have great time.

Re: getting a guided trip ???
Just sent you a PM. Go to the home page of ifish and look at the Washington guides - Clancy Holt. He is located in SW Washington.
Happy early birthdays to you and your dad. Good Luck and Fish Hard.

Re: getting a guided trip ???
Marty Peterson (Gone Fishing), in my book he is as good as a guide can get. He is very personable, funny and willing to pass along his knowledge. Oh yeah, he knows which rocks the fish hide behind!

Re: getting a guided trip ???
another vote for Bob with Rivers Northwest Guide Service . I have only fished with bob out of all the guides that advertise on I fish I am sure they are all excellent choices. I would figure out where and what I wanted to fish for then look to see what guides fish that area.

Re: getting a guided trip ???
Nothing better than taking big chinooks on egg and bobber.
For Egg & Bobber fishing I would look at the following:
Spring Chinook: Scott Amerman or Grant Scheele
Fall Chinook: Grant Scheele or Scott Amerman
Not an Egg/Bob fishery but a pile of fun just the same.
August Bouy 10: Grant Scheele or Dave Johnson

Re: getting a guided trip ???
Clancy or Ron Holt are great guides. Clancy is one of the pioneers in developing the side drifting method. Anyone who fishes around Clancy or Ron will attest that they outfish just about everyone.
