Default Ruger 7mm

For christmas I recieved a Ruger 7mm Rem mag. I was wondering what the knock down power of this gun is? I am looking to use it for Deer and Elk. Is it good for Elk? Thanks Cameron.

I've killed a ton of elk with my 7mm. I used to use 150 nosler ballistic tips before I got older and wiser. I now use barnes tripleshocks in 160g. 140g wouldn't be a bad one though. I will say that you'll want to order up a timney trigger from midway usa.com They're around $70 and more than worth it. I'm no gunsmith and I was able to install with ease Ruger guns have horrible triggers. I put a timney in my Ruger 7mm and it made a big difference in how well I was able to shoot.

Congrats and good luck to you

Have no fear with your 7mm. IMHO and just IMHO you have the best rifle caliber for the game around these parts. More power than some without alot more recoil and just a little less than others that have alot more recoil.

Many a elk have fallen to the 7mm and it is also a great deer gun aswell you will not ruin much meat if you put the bullet where it is supposed to go as there isn't much in that area anyhow.

Good score for christmas you will be happy for years to come.

No such thing as "knock down power".

The 7mm Rem will kill elk quite well but it's overkill on deer, unless you are shooting at longer ranges. For deer stick to neck or lung shots to avoid meat damage. I would also recomend that you use heavier bullets loaded down for deer.

Think no more, 7mm is plenty of gun for an old bull. Shot placement is everything, so go get that new trigger and practice, practice, pratice.

Hey, the heck with the 7mm (fine caliber, no debate is what I really mean, maybe a bit big for blacktail) but Santa had a nice choice for the model, I love my Rugers!

If your only going to own 1 rifle for everything you hunt, I think 7mm is probably the one. I shoot 150 grain ballistic tips at deer. The last two bucks I've shot were both double lunged between the ribs. I bet I wasted around 3 pounds of meat on each deer. For elk I would step it up the a partition or accubond...
