My newest creation.
i just started tying jigs a little while ago, and i was flipping through a magazine when i saw a greenbutt skunk fly, and it sparked an idea in my mind, and i went right to work. this was the end result.
probably my best jig i have made since i started. any tips for better " makings " would be very appreciated.

Re: My newest creation.
Funny, but for some strange reason, I'm really quite attracted to the fly, and the name.

Re: My newest creation.
You will have to report back on the results of the trial run for this killer jig.

Re: My newest creation.
The Green Butt is the most used and some would say most successful, fly for catching summer steelhead. The technique used is to swing the fly slowly across the current (actually it swings down and across). The theoretical reason the fly is so effective is the profile of the fly as it swings across in front of the steelhead is in a vertical position. Meaning all the steelhead can see is primarily the butt of the fly, so if the butt is neon green, the steelhead is able to see the fly much better than other patterns.
If you think about the profile of the jig, it too floats down river, butt first. So a green butt on a jig should have the same success as the fly.
Good idea on the jig!!

Re: My newest creation.
It looks great to me. If I were a steelhead, I think I would be tempted by that one. Let us know how you do with it. And, of course, if you would like me to field test one for you, I'd be glad to do so.
Mark and Cindy at First Cast Jigs make a somewhat similar jig they call a "Green-Butted Skunk" jig. You will find a photo of it under the category "Specialty Jigs" on the First Cast Jigs website.

Re: My newest creation.
fisherkid, nice looking jig. Since you asked I guess I'll toss a little idea for inhancement for your fly. Maybe tie in less finishing wraps behind the silver bead. They look a bit bulky. Other then that I'd say I'd better keep my yap shut, it's very nice and should be fun getting that first yank on that thing.

Re: My newest creation.
First cast jigs makes a GBS pattern. Check his web site.
