Wilson Bank help?
Hi, i was wondering if some kind people could share some spots with me on where to bank the wilson please? I will be happy with any fish, steel or nook. I know about the guide shop, and behind the RV park... could you guys care to share some more please? PM happily accepted, and my mouth is shut. Thanks so much
Cliff
PS hooked 1 nice nook and 1 steel behind the guideshop yesterday... got the nook to the bank, but no one had a net... the steel got off after i got a quick glance at him and a headshake

Re: Wilson Bank help?
Try going up the river from the bait shop. Preferably below Lees camp. Almost any place you can get to the water and there is a hole of water is a potential steelhead area. The competion is many and there are too many fisherman on the Wilson river for the sieze of the river. It's first come first served. Good luck.

Re: Wilson Bank help?
cliff, I you want to get at the brat that are coming back down low hit Donaldson, fish it high and you are very close to the bottom of the Dykes run. If you join the oregon fishing club you can fish above Sollie in the Piling hole, snaggy but you are right above tidewater. Also there is the Josie hole, gravel pile where hw6 splits with the river. There are some bank spots off the road just above the gravel pile, not sure how good it is now, but an old timer told me it use to produce. A bankie could spend many hours/days on those lower section and be in amongst the brats. also I see bankies on the north side of the river, not sure if the farmers will let you in, but always seems to be somebody down through there, so go create some opportunities with a smile and garbage bag.

Re: Wilson Bank help?
Cliff - What Gus said. Also, the Fishing in Oregon book gives a lot of information on the Wilson. Also, also, I'll pass along the advice that was once passed to me...
If you see a spot to pull off the road, there is probably a fishing hole nearby. If there is a trail leading from said parking spot to the river it is likely a popular and possibly productive spot. If there is a ton of garbage strewn along the trail, it is definitely one of the more popular fishing holes on the Wilson and probably is, or was recently and will be again, full of fish. Other than that I am not going to give you any more information for the simple reason that you know almost as much as me about the Wilson and you are 16 and I am almost 40 and it just isn't fair knowing how much you will know about catching fish when you are my age and I am too old to climb up and down those muddy banks. Merry Christmas and don't be afraid to go off the beaten path... you might be rewarded with your own secret hole. lnf

Re: Wilson Bank help?
There are numerous of those sorts of spots mentioned by lilnorthfork on Hwy 6 between mileposts 17 and 14. Some require getting a bit muddy to get down to the river. Getting muddy means getting fish.
There are no "zips" on the Wilson. It is a heavily fished river, but many places to get away from the crowds and find steel.

Re: Wilson Bank help?
ok, well thanks for the "few" but greatly appreciated replies! I would be all for getting muddy and down and dirty for a chance to hook a fish, but my dad is a "big" guy... he doesnt take a fall as good as me. so we are probably going to have to stick it out in the easy access areas Well, thanks again! Ill check out the donaldson place

Re: Wilson Bank help?
There is a good drift at mile post 6, another at mile post 7. These are drift fishing spots or bobber and jig. I have bonked my fair share at the mile post 6 area. When you park there walk upstream a ways and you will see the trail going down to the water, If there are fish there you should be able to see them in the tailout, or you can go upstream to where the water comes into the river from a small stream and fish right there. Pink and Purple jigs have worked there for me or blue fox spinners size 5 all chrome. I may be there in the morning. Good luck
