Re: The Art of War
Yep. Its a must read.
That said, it is a collection of hundreds (or even thousands) of short proverbs, like, "Hold out baits to entice the enemy. Feign disorder, and crush him. "

Another book is the "Art of Business" based on this same book.

Re: The Art of War
I'll post a report when I'm done with it. Taking a class next semester that covers 3-4 books with about 100-200 pages of reading assigned weekly. Ouch. Trying to get a jump start during the holiday break.

CT,
You will see/read a real result based deterrent in the first part of the book. I was thinking about it while posting on the Peterson thread.

Re: The Art of War
A lot of books which have been translated from Chinese (or other Asian languages) into English are tough. There are a lot of words in those languages that don't translate directly into English. It's hard to explain exactly what I mean, but read with an open mind--try to pick up on the author's meaning rather than his statements verbatim.

Re: The Art of War
Reading Sun Tsu's The Art of War is a lot like reading Lao Tsu's Tao te Ching: both are very "epithet-ish". They are strings of pearls of wisdom. At the end of the day, it's akin to plowing through the sonnets of Shakespeare. Some are good, some are mediocre and some are absolutely stunning. Keep digging through the manure and you'll find the horses.
