Hot Shot
Size 30, 1/0
Size 50, 2's
Size 70, 4's

Kwik fish
K14, 1's
K15, 1/0
K16, 2/0

This isn't set in stone, but it's been working for me.

Charmon....With the Hotshots I use a 1/0 on the size 30, and a size 1 on 50's. I have never used a 70 but would not use smaller than a 2 unless you like losing fish. On Kwikfish its easy to remember, 4/0 on 14's, 5/0 on 15's and 6/0 on k-16's. Dont be afraid of the bigger hooks, they will get more fish to the boat.

Would have to agree with CV on his general siwash recommendations for Kwiks. Look at the butt end of those plugs. You would not want a hook on there that was so small that the butt of the plug is blocking access to the hook point. Big plug = big hook.

That said, there are some downsides to a bigger hook.

1) It takes more force to drive a big hook thru flesh than a little one with smaller caliber metal. You either need to set the hook harder or the fish must strike more forcefully to bury the hook point. If not, it might mean a lost fish. Something to consider if you like to fish big plugs with lighter gear.

2) The bigger bite on a bigger hook can be much more damaging to the fish... especially a smaller fish. The hook point has a greater reach to puncture an eye or a vital blood vessel, rather than just hooking the fish in the jaw or lip. It also leaves a bigger hole in the fish when it is removed. If you are anticipating a lot of C&R in a given fishery, either voluntarily or by regulation (ie clip-only retention), a bigger hook will damage and/or kill more fish.

For these reasons, I have downsized many of my K-16's to 5/0 and K-15's to 4/0.

Thanks for the help.

I now just need to find the hooks, split rings and swivle in 25 or 50 packs.

Found 100 packs only so far.

Can't comment on the hot shots. However, I have been fishing the following setup on kwikfish for the last 4 years with great success:

K14 4/0 front & back
K15 4/0 front & 5/0 back
K16 5/0 front & 5/0 back

All hooks are attached to a 90 pound swivel.

Hope this helps..TB

Good set up - 90lbs swivel is helpful as well.

Thanks
