Default Tunaless/Salmonless this summer and keep working

Since being on the salt is one of my favorite places I thought I'd post this on the Salty Dogs. I've been around I-Fish for quite a while and think it's great! I enjoy the pictures, the stories, the techniques and tips, and sometimes even the disagreements . I don't post much, mainly because I currently live away from Oregon and I don't always have as much to contribute. I usually get out to Oregon once a summer to do some salmon fishing with my family.

My limited I-Fish postings are about to get even less as I leave shortly for Iraq, so it looks like the Oregon salmon and Virginia Tuna are safe this summer. I spent yesterday prepping the boat for storage. She looked a little sad when I left her :depressed:.

One day I will return to my native Oregon permanently. Hopefully there will be ocean fishing opportunities besides sand dabs. I'd like to thank all of you who are working so that we have continued access to ocean resources . This includes those working within the system and those who like to rattle the cage , because personnally I believe you need both. A little good cop/bad cop .

I have seen fisheries management in many locations over the years and if you (sportfishermen) do not get involved in the process in some way, you have zero chance of getting any of your issues addressed. When I return to Oregon, I will be involved, so keep up the good work!

Take care of yourself, Scaup, and take care of your buddies.

And when you get back this way, you have a guaranteed seat on the Irish Wake! My treat!

Please keeping posting every chance you get. Your Ifish family will be missing you.

Good luck in Iraq. I was in the Army and served there, my brother is in the Navy and has served two tours there, let's hope your tour will end it.

There will be plenty of sea creatures waiting for you on your return. Be safe

It is not Us you need to be thanking. It is us that need to be thanking you. Be safe and know that here at home (United States of America) there is at least one, and I suspect many more than you may believe, that wish you well in what you are doing and believe in the cause. Just remember to duck when you need to.
On the other hand I hear and have read that there is some good fishing in the rivers there. So from one ifisher to another, I want to see pictures of the fish you catch.

I guess you'll have to replace the word "sea" with "desert" for a while :depressed:

Thank you for your patriotic service, Scaup. May GOD bless and keep you and yours. As many others have said here .. you have only to show up with a fishing rod in hand and many of us will offer you the voyage of your dreams on the waters we all love.

I'm sure I speak for all of us here ... If you or your brothers in arms need anything at all from the good ol USA, you know where to reach us.

Anything at all .. it's yours for the asking.

Take care over there and return to the forum when you can to keep us updated.
Thank you so much for your service, and for you and your family's sacrifice of your time at home. We'll see you when you get back.
As long as we have a boat, you'll get another chance at salmon and TUNA!.

I don't know that I have anything to add to what others have said - other than God Bless - and God Speed. Please let us know when your out west again - I'm sure you have an open invitation on any "salty dog" boat.

I just had my best friend return from active duty (he is in the Army reserves). He was taken away for 2 full years from family, friends, job. What you folks do for us humbles us all...

Just hang in there Scaup and when you get back you've got a free ride to Tuna Town with me.

You guys/gals are my heroes and are all welcome on my boat and in my house anytime.

As was said before, if you get the chance, send us a note and if there is anything you need, or your family needs, you let us know and it will be done.

Thank you so much and take care over there.

Thanks for all the kind words and offers, they are greatly appreciated. I am serious when I say that one of the best things you can do is get involved in the fisheries management process so that when servicemembers return (I know very few who don't like to fish) they still have plenty of fishing opportunities.

id painter: I'll be gone at least one year. I am going to 18th Airborne Corps to coordinate artillery and air support. I currently work in the Pentagon finding locations for new units as the Army reorganizes. My family will stay in Virginia. I've been in 18 years and they know the drill.
