I don't hunt Ducks or Geese, but do hunt coyotes. Yesterday, while hunting west of Portland in the North Plains/Banks area, I noticed a distinct lack of Ducks throughout the area. Like almost none! Lots of Geese, just no ducks.
Is this normal for this time of year? I thought there were lots of Ducks in the Valley by Nov. 15th. :whazzup:
Any thoughts would be appreciated. I am just curious!

Being somewhat familiar with the area around Jackson Bottoms and other Tualatin River sloughs/flood plains, my guess is that there is still not enough water around to get the ducks in great numbers. Most of what I have seen out there is very much influenced by the amount of rain we get. So far we haven't had much. Since I haven't been out there in awhile I'm guessing. I am sure there are some club members here who could add some better insight, though.

The duck migration coincides with the weather. There just hasn't been much of the nasty stuff to move the birds our way yet. I have noticed some new birds in on my pond, but still not in great numbers. The geese usually arrive earlier, and stay longer. We just need some nasty rain to get some fresh birds in the valley. :smile:
HMM, I wonder what those green headed birds are that keep flying into our pond. Nope no ducks around here. I guess we must be lucky because we have a good number of mallard, widgeon, teal and when the seson opens up the pintail will pay for pulling birds from our spread. Just remember if you set the spread they will come.
