Good Source for Beef Jerky
My wife has asked for some beef jerky for Christmas. Does anyone know of a good source for where to buy some good jerky? Online sources would be great. Thank you in advance.

Re: Good Source for Beef Jerky
I don't know exactly what flavors, etc. you are looking for,
But there is a Russian sausage maker on SE Holgate in Portland that makes very good jerky. Incidentally, he also does game processing.
The store is called International Meat and Sausage, and is on Holgate just east of SE Foster. I can get you the phone number if you'd like.
Cheers,
L

Re: Good Source for Beef Jerky
A family friend out of Canyonville. Someone on here has probably had it before. He sold out to the Indians 6 or 7 years ago but is now back in business trying to get something going. He is trying to get a full scale operation going if anyone wants to invest in something. But let me know and I can get it for you over Thanksgiving weekend.

Re: Good Source for Beef Jerky
If on the coast hunting or fishing...just north of Tillamook on Hwy 101 is the Tillamook Country Smoker. This place has some fine jerky...IMO.
Hey...just found out they have an online site. Might put in an order myself.

Re: Good Source for Beef Jerky
I noticed that you lived in Beaverton.
I used to live in the Milwaukie/ Oak Grove area and the absolute best jerky was from The Sausage Kitchen. They dont use the lesser meat for jerky they use the best cuts. I showed up on a hunting trip once and handed a Chunk to a Cattle Rancher of over 750,000 acres and he said,"Now That's a real piece of Jerky". I almost always get some for Christmas presents. Thanks for reminding me. It's on Mcgloughlin in Gladstone just north of the Burgerville.

Re: Good Source for Beef Jerky
Make the country drive out to Carlton and see Dan at Frontier Custom Cutting. He has a couple different flavors and is way cheaper than your average store bought brands. He also makes his fresh at least once a week. Most of the stuff you buy retail is at least 4-8 weeks old by the time it hits the shelf. He also does game processing.

Re: Good Source for Beef Jerky
Gary West Meats in Jacksonville has some really good stuff. Family-owned business that's been around for a while, and they make quality stuff. They also do catalog and (I believe) online sales.
I won't post a link, lest I get myself in trouble. :-) Google it up, and you'll find it pretty easily.

They also do all of Cabela's jerky. It is good, but you do have to pay for quality.

Re: Good Source for Beef Jerky
You ever think of making your own? If you've got a stove that goes as low as 170dgs it's not that hard. Use a recipe from a Little Chief book, get some cookie sheets and metal bread cooling racks to allow air flow around the meat and you're in bidness. I use crossrib roast, sliced either with or against the grain, depending on how chewey you want it. Slice away all the blue membrane and sinew and cut it about a half inch thick.
Hmmm, I might just make a batch myself, it's been a while!

Re: Good Source for Beef Jerky
One more for the Sausage Kitchen. They make really good stuff. I live about 2 minutes from them and get it all the time, my friend from high school works there and makes the stuff. Their jerkey comes in chunks verus strips like a lot of other places so its really flavorful. They also make great pepperoni.
