Hi there--
I live on it, and I am currently using the river as a chum spawning viewing area, somewhat like a big aquarium.
The water is extremely low and clear, and came up maybe one inch with the little bit of rain we got. :depressed:
I have seen not ONE chinook in it, lately. I don't know what's going on, besides lots and lots of chum spawning.

It's just so low, and no hope for any rain until Tuesday or so. Maybe after that? I hope!

I've just about decided to put away heavy gear and get ready for steelies!

Great Reply and very informative! In all the years I've been fishing this river, I've found, as I'm sure you have too, that later is better. Wouldn't you agree we're still waiting for what has become a true 'winter run' of Chinook?

I'd rather catch it from the bank. Whatever it is.

Floated from the logging bridge down to the 101 take-out this morning (Friday). Beautiful day but I had no luck with the Chinook. As Jen said, low and clear.
I heard some fish were caught in the tide-water below the 101 takeout though.
