Default Summer work in Alaska?

This summer will be the first summer since i was 3 years old that Im not gonna play baseball. After this year of college I think I'm gonna officially retire from the game. The thought of not playing makes me kinda On the other hand, Im looking for a chance to do something I've never been able to do before. I want to try and find a job at a fishing lodge or resort or camp in Alasaka. My favorite thing in the world is helping people get fish. The look on their faces and the excitement in their eyes absolutely gets my going. If i have to make lunches or brine bait or make beds or run people around a river, I wanna do it. Sometimes it's better than catching fish myself. Anyway, I was hoping that some of you might know a place or two that in AK that would be looking for someone like me to work in the summer. I figure I only have one time in my life that I'll be able to chase a dream like this and If i dont try to do it, I'll wish I had for the rest of my life. I know you guys don't all own resorts looking to hire for the summer, but I was just wondering if I could get pointed in the right direction. Thanks fellas. A little help here could really change things for my future.

Sent you a pm. Redfish89 and I used to work together up in AK a few moons ago. Might talk to him also. It's a great experience.

I imagine that if u just went up there and asked around you would find work. We had a sports man show in Redmond on time and I was offered a couple of Deck handing jobs up there. I was 13. So I bet you could get a good fun job easily.

I did this in 1985. Went to work as a guide for Bristol Bay Lodge. What I did was wrote letters to all of the lodges that advertised in the back of Fly Fishing Magezine and got several replies and phone interviews. It was an awesome experience. Go for it. The sport show route would be a good one, you have most of them under one roof. Some cities have bigger shows than others, so it might pay to head to Denver or something like that.

Good luck!

Another way to find work in Alaska is to search the internet. Since your already on it looking at IFISH do a search for lodges in Alaska. I did this a few times and sent lodges that i liked resumes. Several responses come about from doing this and I think the same will be true for you. I've worked up there for two different and can only recommend one. Get on it early as positions will fill fast especially when sportshow season starts.
