Default need some help

I will be on the northern California coast over new years and am thinking about bringing my jig rod for some steelhead action. I will be near the Gualala, Russian(1hr) and Navarro (45min)rivers. Has anyone fished these rivers? Should I leave my rod at home?

Another alternative is to fish for what ever will bite a sandshrimp from the beach.

Thanks!!!

The Elk, a bit farther up the coast may be working and I know the Madd (even farther North but worth the drive) fishes well around year end. The Elk is a beautiful river and about an hour and a half or so North of the Russian but I can't remember the timing of the runs.
