Default Write-off Boat (off road) fuel on taxes???

I know it is done for Washington State (thanks Bassin), can it be done in Oregon? It makes complete sense, since the boat fuel is not being used to travel down the roads and highways being built and maintained by the gas taxes, hence negating the necessity of taxing the boat fuel itself.

Just wondering, I imagine I wouldn't bother myself, since I'm pretty unorganized about that type of thing, and Oregon really doesn't need to loose any more revenue anyway.

Not unless you use your boat for work. No gas tax rebate for recreational boaters in Oregon.

I have heard about a gas tax rebate in Washington for boaters. Can anyone direct me to a site or a phone number where I can learn more about getting some $$ back from my drain in the water??
Any info is much appreciated.

I'm not sure about Oregons taxes but you should still be able to write it off on your federal tax return, just as long as you have records and reciepts to back up the write off.

You can write off anything you want. It's whether it holds up in an audit. My accountant say's it's not available to Oregon boaters. Check with your accountant before you try this one in Oregon.

There was a discussion about this last year.
Do a search. Also look here.

We should pay attention this year especially since gas is going much higher.

Remember Bush thinks that we should pay more to his friends and him like they do in other countries.

There was a benefit for Oregon OHV several years ago, I don't recall if it still exists. If I recall write they took the average amount of fuel used by OHV vehicles in each class; I, II, and III, and refunded the taxes into an OHV improvement account. We didn't/don't get the $ directly, only indirectly through improvments in trail heads, facilities, signs etc...

Maybe our tax $ could go to maintainance of ramps and high usage areas? I wouldn't like it if private ramps got the benefit, but public ramps should have access. T-mook 5th ave, Chinook, Roger's and so on.
